Quite a mole, a deep and rich flavor, a more primitive and straightforward taste / finish, but overall pleasant and interesting, although from those years I expected more.
    • Nose
Open, dry, cardboard, medical medicinal notes, medicinal herbs - motherwort, valerian; orange, kumquat, processed wood, lacquer, slightly overripe tropical fruits, sweet vanilla, light hydrogen sulphide shades, candy drops.
    • Taste
Thick, slightly harsh; sweet and astringent oak, pepper wave, lemon peel, dried fruits - dried apricots, dried apples; kumquat, ginger candied fruits.

Tasting notes from the back of the bottle:

This rare old malt Whisky is full of wonderful light fruity citrus notes intermingled with creamy toffee and sweet candy apple flavours.

  6. MaltMartin scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

A fantastic Inverleven! Actually the best I've had till now. Amazing how Inverleven always suprises me in a positive way. Sad that it stopped producing in the beginning 1990's.
    • Nose
Round and sweet, very aromatic and floral. Excotic fruits (mango, passion fruits).
    • Taste
Rich and complex, warm mouthfeel. Bourbon style oakiness with hints of vanilla, fruit and sweet barley.
    • Finish
Long, a little spicy in the end.

A historic bottling - the first ever official release of Inverleven, the Lowland distillery closed in 1991. This is one of the first releases in Chivas Brothers` Deoch an Doras series - the name (roughly pronounced `Jock an Doris`) means `a drink at the door`, the Gaelic equivalent of `one for the road` - although why the Irish spelling of `doras` has been used instead of the Scottish `doruis` or `dorus` is probably one for the marketing dept to answer.
