  1. Official tasting note

Irish whiskey weekend special bottling 2021, blended whiskey, 58.6% vol.

The 2nd Irish Whiskey Weekend will take place online in 2021. The success of the 1st IWW has encouraged us to offer all Irish whiskey friends and interested parties from all over Germany the opportunity to relax and find out about exciting whiskeys and developments in the world of Irish whiskey from home.

And like last year (WB # 167876), the right whiskey should not be missing for the 2nd IWW. That is why there will also be a special bottling in 2021. This year we've come up with something special for you and we've gotten creative. We didn't want to do a single cask filling again, we wanted to be even more creative.

So we got samples from Ireland and blended in a single batch of whiskey. Of course, it shouldn't be a standard blended whiskey made from single malt and single grain whiskey. And so we experimented a little. The result is a blend of single pot still and peated single malt whiskey.

Both whiskeys were distilled in 2017 and were allowed to mature in ex-bourbon barrels for a full five years. The filling is limited to 128 bottles.

    Irish Whiskey Weekend 2021
    • Nose
      87 87
Mild smoke with a hint of ham, some resin, freshly cut grass, pepper & freshly grated nutmeg, pear sauce. Toffee, vanilla, marzipan. Very nice spice notes that certainly come from the pot still whiskey.
    • Taste
      88 88
Oh, how soft, you don't even notice the 58.6%. Pear sauce, dark chocolate, liquorice, a spice mix of pepper, nutmeg, rosemary, thyme and allspice. Some vanilla and marzipan. The smoke quite restrained, but still present. Delicious.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length, dry, slightly smoky, fruity. Getting a medium-length exit at that age is saying something. That's just great.

  3. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

An amazing drink for three years, but you have to give it credit. That he would have liked a little more maturity here and there. However, the GND whiskeys are very promising and one can look forward to what is to come in the future.
    • Nose
Light, fruity, malty, something stings the nose. Green. Grassy but also a decent pot still flavor. Some yeast, still noticeably young, but lots of aroma and strength. Some coniferous wood on the second nose, citrus and a hint of peat.
    • Taste
Very spicy, pleasant smoky notes resonate, but also pepper, some bacon, coniferous wood and a certain sharpness.
    • Finish
This sharpness then pulls into the finish, menthol. coniferous wood, peat. A bit harsh at the end. The smoke and the tart notes stand for a long time.

  4. Dieter_W scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Very light in colour. The alcohol is for the 58.6 VOL. % well integrated and only four years old.
    blind tasting
Doesn't smell like a Scot, I guessed more like a Finn or Swede
He doesn't meet my taste. I can get more maturation elsewhere for the money.
    • Nose
Marzipan, lemon, tangerines, grapefruit, vanilla, walnut, a bit of smoke, like a burnt grain field.
And a bit alcoholic that rises in the nose like a pinch of pepper. It's probably due to his youth.
    • Taste
very clean, here too it is marzipan, pepper, vanilla and a little smoke that pushes forward.
    • Finish
      Medium length very spicy .

  5. DerDennis! scored this whisky 88 points Specialist

Amazingly complex flavors in smell for such a young smoker.
Overall very spicy with a subtle smoky note and pleasant fruits.
    Great long finish.
    • Nose
      88 88
Subtle campfire smoke, smoked ham, salty, very spicy, clove, sour cucumber, black pepper, menthol, iodine, weak fruits, I fluctuate between pickled pears and overripe apricots, fresh, green wood
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweet and sour fruits, burnt wood, dried ham, mint, cranberries, becoming creamy, salty, some iodine, pepper
    • Finish
      88 88
Long, lots of burnt wood with pleasant fruity notes, but little sweetness, unsweetened peppermint tea
