Quite balanced and drinkable, the leathery note is really fine and not sulphury - very nice

A very well chosen cask for a more than fair price. Signatory Vintage would sell it at twice the price. This one could be a cigar malt.
    • Nose
      88 88
Intense sherry, dark and dried fruits, raisins, grapes. Still, it leaves room for butter cookies, liquorice and berries. It resembles a grappa or brandy to some degree. Very inviting and again a proof for the fact that the colour of a whisky does not determine its tastes or its intensity.
    • Taste
      87 87
Dry, intense sherry, grapes, malt, honey, plums and oat biscuits. Very nice.
    • Finish
      86 86
Sherry and gentle oak, honey, liquorice. It leaves fresh cigar tobacco and sherry notes. The oak could be more dominant.

Both the nose and the palate are greeted by a sherry explosion (manzanilla?). Still not too penetrating for me. Oily with notes of vanilla and hints of liquorice. The alcohol is very well integrated.

Strong, phenolic notes are dominant fresh from the bottle in the glass. Must be due to alcohol and age. After he stands for a while and hand warmth comes, these evaporate. Roasted almonds and roasted nuts, dried fruit, pleasant sweetness, not too dominant.
The sherry character is immediately present in the mouth. Pleasantly drying on the tongue. Reminiscent of the tannins of the sloe. The edges of the tongue probably sense some salt. Beautiful, fine wood notes
All in all a very nice whisky with a good PLV
    • Nose
Glue at first, but it quickly evaporates. Dried fruits like in a fruit bread, almonds, nuts. Wood and sherry notes
    • Taste
Beautifully mouth-filling, many fruit, wood and nut notes.
Slightly salty on the edges of the tongue.
Alcohol well integrated, in my opinion, consistent.
    • Finish
Unfortunately only medium long, but very pleasant.

Nice dram, pretty powerful, nice sherrycask influence with some typical licorice flavors. Warming, pleasant.
    • Nose
      87 87
Pretty intense nose. Oily, raisins, plums, berries. Quite some alcohol. Ripe fruits. Some spicy notes.
    • Taste
      86 86
Pretty some power, a bit drying mouthfeel, red fruits, some licorice, honey drop, a sour edge underneath.
    • Finish
      87 87
More smooth now, still a bit drying. A sour edge, honied licorice. Middle long finish, but warming in the belly. Later on even some whiffs of smoke.

    Fascinating

Crazy Bert has a soft spot for Glenburgie, one of the fingerprint malts in the well-known blend Ballantine's. That much is certain, because this is already the 6th he has selected (the 5th under the Asta Morris label, but there is also a very nice one bottled by Signatory for him). This 6th Glenburgie matured on a former sherry cask after distillation in 2008.

Ha, autumn in your glass. Cereal with coconut, crust of double baked bread, meringue, vanilla, white fruit, overripe banana, leaves in the forest after a rain shower. But also a spicy broth, farmer's butter and even caramelized onion! Really. It’ a tad umami and I think it's fine.

Nice and oily, even creamy. My taste buds are confused. Is this sweet or salty? Hearty or fruity? A bit of both, they decide. But spicy. Pastries with apricots and mandarins in a stew opposite brown bread and a drop of chicken soup. I'm not kidding!

The finish is particularly long, nice and spicy and savy.

Captivating and dangerously drinkable. Just under 80 EUR. What a friendly price tag.
