  1. Gloin scored this whisky 65 points Expert Senior

The smell is idiosyncratic and might be nice if it did not look artificially like a woman with too much perfume. Unfortunately it gets worse afterwards. The taste and the finish leave the impression of bath foam, artificial and unpleasant. The very heterogeneous reviews have made me curious. Unfortunately, I can not recommend the whisky in any way umd must classify me at the bottom of the ratings.
    • Nose
Sweet, tender smoke, vanilla, flowers (are the violets?), Anise, perfume-like, buttery, somehow artificially and put on, soap, with time I get used to it and the notes are fruity and grassy.
    • Taste
Strong onset, sharpness on the tongue, and then it is extraordinary, but unfortunately not good: soapy, bitter, artificial, behind it a little citrus, dry, slightly salty
    • Finish
Dry smoke, bitter, woody, gum, again soapy.

Unfortunately not really mine. Much too flowery and grassy and that is not really contrary. With water it gets worse.
    • Nose
      75 75
grassy, fresh, quite edgy, lots of alcohol, vanilla, quite a bit smoke, yes, the said violet note is there, but not dominant, really very floral, the whole nose is occupied, some oak
    • Taste
      73 73
oily, also very floral, hay, sweet, now the violet becomes clearer, some oak, for a short while I had chocolate, some vanilla, here also lighter ashen smoke,
    • Finish
      77 77
Vanilla and flowers, that's good enough so summary, above that lies a slight smoke veil

Bowmore with a difference. The artificial sweetness is unexpected and unpleasant at first. It goes by with time, but the memory remains on the tongue. An interesting whisky that I'm glad I did not have to call a bottle.
    • Nose
Fruity and herbaceous at the beginning, only a little smoke. Daisies and some violet scent. In addition the approach of a Heunote. Sweet honey, milk chocolate and toffee.
    • Taste
A very artificial sweetness spreads throughout the mouth. Has at the beginning similarity with so many Spülmittelote older Springbank. Very dry. Halbbittere herbs occur and push the artificial bath additive sweet in the background. Spicy oak ensures a pleasant dryness.
    • Finish
Medium long and dry, with oak, a rest of rinsi and some honey.

The nose is difficult to define and sleep totally off the beaten track. The rest, although more traditional, is not without interest. Far from there
    • Nose
Poultry broth, rusks. Very surprising is not it? There is a lot of depth, it's fat. Yes that's right, a good big broth not defatted and butter a little rancid. Very light OBE (metal) and wet cardboard and more distant some smoked fruits.
    • Taste
Licorice chews, cold ashes, cigarette smoke and herbs. Very powerful and very nice.
    • Finish
      Long cigarette and ashes. Saline.

  9. rottendon scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A slightly pepped 12er with matching drinking strength and powerful board in the finish. So I like that too, but feel neither violet nor soap (so really just a touch) as unpleasant.

Notes from an online chat tasting
    • Nose
Actually, a typical, clean Bowmore Bourbonnase, nothing surprising and nothing that bothers. Relatively mild in the smoke, I think. Dry herbs I find very suitable, otherwise ashy smoke, a little vanilla and with imagination also a little sea air. When heated, it becomes more intrusive. Too much marjoram in the herb mix!
    • Taste
I still like it very well, but I already have a beautiful oak tree in my luggage. Ostensibly a slightly dry, malty sweetness and a few violets. But not too much for me. The alcohol is certainly very well involved, but I find him a bit metallic, bizzels like that.
    • Finish
Goes much more bitter when he came, the finish is not ünbvermäßig long and leaves a slightly sweet, labbidden feeling on the tongue. I can not find soap though. Well, maybe ...

  10. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Very interesting, idiosyncratic, and does not guarantee anything to enemies of the Bowmore violet note. I like it, but I can understand it well if I belong to a minority. ;-)
    • Nose
strong, sweet & kräutrig (vanilla, a little honey, old dry herbs), slightly pungent (alcohol), with some water comes yellow fruit, citrus notes, a hint of pineapple, mango, honey banana, the herb gets green and grassy, slightly salty freshness , no violet ...
    • Taste
... but here - violets, a bit soapy, a bit bitter, behind them vanilla, dark chocolate, citrus fruit ... or rather orange peel / lemonade ... I do not really recognize smoke, you could interpret the bitter notes as a bit ashy
    • Finish
long, here is smoke / ash, plus coffee, white Haribo bear ... and a rest of violet soap ... pretty dry
