    Already after tasting the first bottlings of the S21 Family Casks, I unfortunately have to realize that, to my regret, this series is moving in a direction that is no longer a guarantee for mostly really outstanding bottlings. In the meantime there are more and more "average to good" bottlings measured by price at completely excessive prices below that.
    This bottling isn't bad either, don't get me wrong. A still delicious malt but nothing special either - so why should I pay over 200 euros for it when you can get something like this for less than 100 euros?
    What a shame, it doesn't make it easier to find the fewer - but still available - excellent barrels in the series.

      relatively closed - water doesn't help much either; delicate light fruit notes; Oranges; Apples; slightly malty; some vanilla; spicy notes

      sweet delicate fruity notes; bright fruits; some pepper; sparkling seasoning

      peppery-spicy; tender fruit; some oak spice (slightly tart)

    I keep coming to the conclusion that 4th Fill under 20 doesn't work for me. With this bottling, I would definitely not have blindly come across a 4th fill sherry barrel.

      Strongly spicy notes of meat broth and herbs, a slightly alcoholic tinge and gentle yellow-fruity aromas of apricot, nectarine, apple and lemon zest
    • Taste

      Surprisingly clear, almost vinous acidity and tannins. 4th fill, really? But the barrel brought in a lot of boom. Somewhat light-colored fruits can still be lured out, but the sour and bitter wood aromas dominate. Even longer idle times no longer tickle out. Unfortunately kind of boring.

      Quite long, quite peppery and strongly astringent, no hints of fruit whatsoever, personally too extreme in the hot-bitter corner

    Tasted Winterthur 2022. Thank you Oli, delicious drop.
    Deliberately opted for the 4th fill, I felt less like compote and more like wood. Expectation was met and more.

      Oak, liquorice, anise. All in all, I found the nose (especially strong) to be rather subtle.
    • Taste
      But now! Yes, it's almost 60%. But it doesn't even really burn for that. Tastes strongly of oak, anise, raspberries (!). Also interesting that there is obviously still something of the distillery character there. Then come chocolate, honey, actually a few notes of sherry in the background. Something nutty and oranges. All in all it's quite complex.

    The first time I found him a point better. The smell is fun too, but the rest isn't my cup of tea at all. So far the worst family cask I've had the pleasure of trying.

      Fresh in the glass, it initially exudes a copper/small change smell. Then a nice herbal note. cocoa powder. Dry. In any case, he keeps a relatively low profile at first, maybe he'll open up if I add a few drops of water afterwards. A pleasant floral scent in the background. hay and oak. It's also fruity, apricot, but far less than I had hoped for.

      The wood comes out, gently at first, then very bitter over time. Too bitter for my taste.
