Young Glen Scotia, with some pretty decent cask maturation. Typical Glen Scotia profile, 46%, NCF, Natural colour etc. Nothing too fancy, and a fair bit more feisty than the normal 15. Recommended at around 50€.
    • Nose
      87 87
Sweet malt, warm honey, vanilla, wild summer flowers, lemon curt, ripe apricot, straw in the sun, freshly zested lemon and orange. Underlain a fresh clean peat. Very pleasant and interesting.
    • Taste
      86 86
Orange marmelade and lemon curt, sultanas, vanilin, white cracked pepper corn, slight chili moving into the finish. Again a subtle peaty earthy tone that underlines the whole experience.
    • Finish
      85 85
Drying on oak, slightly bitter, fading on chlorophyll, pepper and chili.

  2. HammerHead scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Head to head with the 16 yo 2019 bottling (WB152673). There's more fruit on the nose here, but also more dry wood bitters in development and finish. I have a slight preference for the 16 yo over this, because of its better balance.
    • Nose
      86 86
Lots of sweet and sour citrus, orange, lemon, ripe juicy apple, some apricot, vanilla, slightly resinous, a sweet honied nuttiness, a whiff of cinnamon sugar.
    • Taste
      85 85
A little buttery, vanilla, more citrus, lemon oil, lemon zest, bitter lemon, pomelo, canned tangerine, dried apricot, chalk, a little nutty, bitter oak, some stingy alcohol, peppery.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium length: honey, sweet and bitter citrus, very spicy, pepper, clove and a little too much of the dry wood bitters.

Great whisky with very good price to value relationship... Compelling buy below 50€ nowadays.

Would have been even better in higher strength I guess

Whisky is very average for me and too bitter. Unfortunately, these are not my moods. While the aroma looks very decent, the taste and finish are below expectations for me. Good thing it is only a small dram as I would be very dissapointed and disappointed if I purchased the whole bottle. This is the first Glen Scotia that did not suit my tastes and atmosphere.
    • Nose
      83 83
tender, sweet, fruity, apples, pine needles, wet moss
    • Taste
      81 81
citrus, nuts, bitterness, red orange, wet earth,
    • Finish
      81 81
medium long, very bitter, dry, the tip is slightly spicy and quite warming

Quite rough and unbalanced, suprisingly smoky
    • Nose

Spices, dry hay, honey, some yellow fruits, little citric, hints of vanilla, whiffs of leather and smoke, little floral, heather, herbs, little peat
    • Taste

Punchy, spicy, honey, subtle sweetness, little peat and smoke, herbs, yellow fruits again, dry hay
    • Finish
      81 81
Long, burning, more peat and smoke, herbs, a tad bitter
