Goes on with a lot of steam and, with its very special smoky note paired with spices and citrus fruits, ensures a varied play of aromas from the nose to the finish. Well worth looking out for peated whiskey from the Great Northern Distillery.

A clear smoky note settles in the nose. In terms of type and characteristics, the GND smoke (because it is a whiskey from the Great Northern Distillery, as you can read on the label on the back) cannot be compared with any smoke note of the smoky single malts from Scotland I know. Not phenolic, not really peaty, although the peat used is said to come from Scotland. Not even (heather) herbal like some peated whiskeys from Scandinavia. This is a very unique smoky note with recognition value, whether bottled as Bill Phil or sometimes as Two Stacks. Slightly greasy and with warm machine oil. Lemons and lime slices, cereals, malt, marzipan. Nice spicy notes: marjoram, savory, basil, some thyme.

Has a lot of strength, is very smoky from the start and immediately lays on the tongue with a good portion of pepper and a handful of salty liquorice. Hardly dry, rather creamy. Fresh cut grass, oak chips, the spices from the nose. It dries out quickly after all, provides grapefruit, lime, lemon peel. Nougat chocolate, almond butter, cold coffee.

Medium length, very dry. The smoke note lingers for a long time, but it's not that it's just the smoke that can still be found in the finish. There are still the spices, there is still some left over from the grapefruit and limes. Milk chocolate, toffee, caramel.

Good, varied Irishman. It's just a pity that the smoke on the nose isn't more pronounced or stays the same as at the beginning.

A lot of smoke rises from the glass into the nose immediately after pouring it. But that wears off pretty quickly. Then rather soft, quite fresh start in the nose. Slightly sour, fruity aromas develop first. Citrus, grapefruit, gooseberries. All this in connection with grassy-floral notes of hay, grain and muesli makes the whiskey fresh and summery. The smoke note, although still recognizable, is not very dominant. That could be more intense. But there are also nice spicy notes of savory and basil.

Powerful, somewhat intense smoky attack on the palate. Peppery-hot with lots of spice but not too hot. A light salty note brings variety. Here, too, it appears grassy-floral, malty-sweet, hay, fresh bread dough with the fruits of grapefruit, zirons.
In the background vanilla, toffee and a subtle nut aroma.

Medium-length finish, although the smoke is rather low, it stays in the mouth for the longest time. In addition sour fruits, milk coffee and caramel.

Very neat Irishman. Surprised me positively. For a smoker, however, it is a bit too weak for me.

Light fruity, citrus, some grappa, grassy, young

Somewhat gummy, sweetish, young, a bit peaty, woody spice, a bit of alcohol sharpness

Medium length, still a little bit alcoholic, peaty
