  1. Archer scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Goes on with a lot of steam and, with its very special smoky note paired with spices and citrus fruits, ensures a varied play of aromas from the nose to the finish. Well worth looking out for peated whiskey from the Great Northern Distillery.
    • Nose
      87 87
A clear smoky note settles in the nose. In terms of type and characteristics, the GND smoke (because it is a whiskey from the Great Northern Distillery, as you can read on the label on the back) cannot be compared with any smoke note of the smoky single malts from Scotland I know. Not phenolic, not really peaty, although the peat used is said to come from Scotland. Not even (heather) herbal like some peated whiskeys from Scandinavia. This is a very unique smoky note with recognition value, whether bottled as Bill Phil or sometimes as Two Stacks. Slightly greasy and with warm machine oil. Lemons and lime slices, cereals, malt, marzipan. Nice spicy notes: marjoram, savory, basil, some thyme.
    • Taste
      87 87
Has a lot of strength, is very smoky from the start and immediately lays on the tongue with a good portion of pepper and a handful of salty liquorice. Hardly dry, rather creamy. Fresh cut grass, oak chips, the spices from the nose. It dries out quickly after all, provides grapefruit, lime, lemon peel. Nougat chocolate, almond butter, cold coffee.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length, very dry. The smoke note lingers for a long time, but it's not that it's just the smoke that can still be found in the finish. There are still the spices, there is still some left over from the grapefruit and limes. Milk chocolate, toffee, caramel.
