Playing a whisky with water, but not too much.

In the As We Get It! Series Ian MacLeod fills the barrels as they are. Undyed, not chill-filtered and at cask strength. No two batches are the same.

Deep iodine, tide, spray, the waves whip the face. Kelp, seaweed, seafood. Intense peat, with some white fruits, plums, Mirabelle plums. It's very fresh. Frost, sea breeze in winter. Pleasant mouth, a little less intense, simple, smooth, a drizzle of vanilla, then very strong spices, cumin, black pepper, cloves. A sprig of anise. Atomic, long, disturbing finish, oysters, razor clams, lobsters. Rust. Vase. A line of coal in the rock.

"As we get it" Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 61% alc. Bottler: Ian Macleod. Expansion: unknown

Nose: Sweet peat smoke, pleasant mixture of maritime aromas and a little charcoal grill. I find caramel, shell limestone and a wet sandy beach, then vanilla and a touch of barbecue marinade. Some fat drips from the meat into the grill and burns.

Palate: Very sweet start, it surprises me a lot. Fresh caramel and some milk chocolate, then oysters and soy sauce, fennel and menthol. Towards the end, the sweetness becomes even thicker, the vanilla becomes stronger and a variety of culinary herbs.

Finish: Medium to long, warms up for a while. The emphasis is still on sweet smoke and more herbal aromas, plus tar and very mild oak.

Conclusion: Oh an exciting Islay whisky and definitely not for every lover of smoky single malts. On the palate in particular, it surprises with tart and slightly bitter herbal aromas that you did not expect in the nose before. The 61% are wonderfully integrated, the whisky can ideally be drunk without adding water. 84/100 points (2022)

Legga particle. Goes easily without water. The 61% are super involved.
    • Nose
The cork squeaks very good when opened. Like it a lot.

      Color:
      Clear + 1

      Nose:
Starts out incredibly sweet and slightly ashy. I mean clearly to smell youthful notes in the background, but this wonderful sweetness covers it up very nicely. The smoke remains ashy and slightly dry. In addition, damp stones and a bit of leather. Some salty sea water and pineapple. A fresh breeze blows through the glass and brings mint with it.
With a little time in the glass, the colleague looks a little dirtier and meatier. At the same time it is becoming more moldy. There is also more lemon and wet leaves.
    • Taste
Sweet start with ashy smoke. Green grapes and very mineral. In addition, a vegetable aftertaste. Edged with a nice herbal note. The 61% come along smoothly. A little fennel and green tea join it. Nevertheless, the story remains wonderfully sweet and somehow viscous.
With the second sip, more vanilla and a bit tart honey. But now also more spicy / peppery.
    • Finish
Short to medium length. Very cute with ashy smoke and a floral touch. Got something of rose water. In addition, a subtle bitterness.
