A difficult whisky. Sherry seasoned casks have left sherry flavor in the whisky. This is immediately recognizable in the nosing. Behind is very light smoke, citrus freshness with menthol, some spice with cinnamon bark and herbs. But somehow the depth is missing.
The Highland Park flavors are present but they are in the background, come off a bit weak. The sherry aromas determine the taste. The alcohol is too present and rough. With water, however, the whisky quickly becomes too thin and expressionless. There is an unsightly wood note in the background. But there are also a few fruity notes with sweet cherry juice, which unfortunately cannot develop properly.
The finish is also weak, some wood with a light smoke.
The whisky is a little disappointing. The color is strong, but the taste lags behind, sherry, smoke and alcohol are not really well woven together. Maybe a whisky from a weak cask has been matured in fresh sherry seasoned cask. This brings a lot of color but only patch aromas. I don't really like the whisky.
