A good sherry was used. It’s not a “bomb”, but it is a well balanced expression with a vanilla addition.
    • Nose
      89 89
Oily, vanilla, stewed red fruits, plummy, buttered bread. Nice and fragrant
    • Taste
      88 88
Balanced, but a bit watery. Sherry and vanilla, with a small amount of spice. Matches the nose well.
    • Finish
      87 87
Fruity, medium short. A tad tart, sherry sticks around and it ends sweet.

A nice whisky, easy to drink, better than the 10 and 12 fine oak but not worth the price tag
    • Nose
Vanilla, some sherry dry fruits and a hint of grass.
    • Taste
Vanilla is more dominant than the sherry, More marzipan/almonds than I have had in any other OB Macallan.
    • Finish
Vanilla with some spice, cut grass, some dry wood .

I absolutely love this. I picked up a half dozen bottles a while back at clearance price at Le Clos in Dubai airport.

This is fabulous whisky, so wonderfully precise with everything balanced to perfection. It's a juicy, chewy fruity dry oak delight. It's almost Japanese in its engineered aspect and I can see why this is so popular in the Orient, not merely through marketing but actually because there are no off-notes, nothing untoward to deal with.

It's like sucking a gobstopper. You get a range of flavours from orange, through a range of tropical fruits and finally to liqourice, and it's so mouth wateringly fruity and juicy you just want more.

A truly great whisky in fact. If you come at this without preconceptions about the price (and admittedly I got mine for around 50 quid) then you will understand. If you come at Macallan thinking it is an overpriced rip off then you won't get it.

It's not a MASSIVE whisky, but great whisky doesn't need to be, this is simply an absolute pleasure to drink and perhaps that is the skill in perfecting simplicity which Macallan seem to achieve. Macallan make simple whisky, but they make the very best simple whisky in the world.

I haven't tried the latest incarnation of the Macallan 15 but I don't think it can beat this perfection.

    • Nose
      88 88
sweet dried fruits, yellow fruits, oiled wooden planks, finely fruity sherry notes, harmonious and noble, subtle alcohol
    • Taste
      86 86
It also transports most of the aromas to the palate, slightly bitter, youthful but pleasant, and the alcohol stays back
    • Finish
      82 82
unspectacular and rather short than long, slight adhesive note, bitterness from the oak, plain

Nice promise not kept. Enthusiasm: Nose 4/5 Mouth 2/5 Final 3/5 Whisky n ° 1644
    • Nose
Floral, fruity, some splinters of wood, it is rather elegant and autumnal. Toffee, crème brûlée, clove and coffee, very pleasant!
    • Taste
Fluid, too much maybe the reduction feels too much. Draft, not very precise. we have vanilla. It's too simple.
    • Finish
      Easy and pleasant, slightly bitter.
