I absolutely love this. I picked up a half dozen bottles a while back at clearance price at Le Clos in Dubai airport.
This is fabulous whisky, so wonderfully precise with everything balanced to perfection. It's a juicy, chewy fruity dry oak delight. It's almost Japanese in its engineered aspect and I can see why this is so popular in the Orient, not merely through marketing but actually because there are no off-notes, nothing untoward to deal with.
It's like sucking a gobstopper. You get a range of flavours from orange, through a range of tropical fruits and finally to liqourice, and it's so mouth wateringly fruity and juicy you just want more.
A truly great whisky in fact. If you come at this without preconceptions about the price (and admittedly I got mine for around 50 quid) then you will understand. If you come at Macallan thinking it is an overpriced rip off then you won't get it.
It's not a MASSIVE whisky, but great whisky doesn't need to be, this is simply an absolute pleasure to drink and perhaps that is the skill in perfecting simplicity which Macallan seem to achieve. Macallan make simple whisky, but they make the very best simple whisky in the world.
I haven't tried the latest incarnation of the Macallan 15 but I don't think it can beat this perfection.
