Ardbeg 5 years, "Wee Beastie", 47.4% alc. Original bottling (2021). Expansion: Bourbon and sherry casks (Oloroso)

Nose: Sweet and smoky, slightly acidic at the same time. Gooseberries, sourdough, lemon cake, lots of tar and peat smoke resonate with it. In addition, a light vanilla and a lot of sea water, some flotsam and also rusty metal. Also pear candies, but the sweetness only lingers briefly, the smoke and the tart citrus fruits keep pushing forward. After a while I find resin, mustard seeds and children's liquorice, the vanilla becomes stronger.

Palate: Hugely sweet at first, then the smoke comes in like a wave and becomes quite engaging. Lemon glaze and limoncello, some soft apricot and honeydew melon. Now the smoke takes over, some seaweed and iodine, has a slightly medicinal effect, plus stale salt water. Mustard in the background again and a hint of mint chocolate.

Finish: Medium to long, the sweetness disappears from the palate and the smoke lasts longer. The mint chocolate accompanies a little.

Conclusion: Honest 5 years of maturation and from my point of view an increase to An Oa. I can't quite understand the name of the Ardbeg because I'm still looking for the little beast, but maybe the emphasis should be on "small"? This bottling definitely doesn't have to hide, we have a pleasant and complex Ardbeg with a great price/performance ratio. This whisky definitely puts some of the annual limited releases in the shade. 87/100 points (2022).

Second chance after a tasting last year: it doesn't get any better. Absolutely open-minded about young bottled whiskys, this is an Ardbeg for me that I don't necessarily need. You can leave the barrels lying around for a few more years and then burn them up in the TEN.

Smoked pear pieces, applesauce, cloves and pepper. Green twigs, cold coffee. Warm corrugated iron roof. Clear youth to be seen. Quite rabid, slightly restless and jostling.

Dry and strong start. Phenolic smoke, hot tar, fresh clippings. Right at the start with a bitter herbal mixture, with young, green twigs, tree sap, smoked apple and pear pieces.

If you create the exit of the TEN from this set of 3, the 5yo leaves the field pretty quickly. Sure, there is smoke, but that's a smoky note that puts you on your pants and then only plays pocket billiards.

The set is brilliant. Ardbeg did not mess with the design and the good content.
Yesterday I had the nice glass green 200 ml. Opened an oa bottle wow because I think they have chosen very good barrels. Really great so far, my best An Oa. And then you can change the bottle design by pulling off the label on the front and another adventure picture is hidden underneath.
Really something completely different. Find a must for whisky lovers to purchase for under € 50.
