Well, colour me impressed! The neck pour had already made an impact, but now that I've spent more time with it I absolutely love it. The 14 years in the cask have been quiet, and the fruity, oily spirit still shines through. The gentle cask influence provides nice balance in the form of light vanilla and butterscotch. What a delightful whisky. Glen Elgin is fast becoming one of my favourite distilleries.

    A malt to enjoy.
Plays absolutely above its age and price league!

Delicate fruitiness, enough 'backbone' thanks to mild tannins and a hint of diesel-like fumes, plus bitter-sweet blossom oil.
    • Taste
      88 88
Tastes like the air after a summer rain plus flowers, honey, fresh salty bread and warm brass - in one word: DELICIOUS!

Of course, this youngster doesn't get that much anymore, nose and palate are already a highlight in the framework data. But it is still harmonious and the tart fruitiness remains for a relatively long time.

Very good whisky to discover the distillery profile of Glen Elgin. Refreshing dram with lots of fruitiness, apples, pears, pineapple and some herbal notes as well.

  6. Malzbrenner scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

The fourteen-year-old whisky comes from Signatory's Un-Chillfiltered Collection and was bottled at 46% vol. Uncolored and not cold-filtered, the key data gives you a solid dram in the glass.
The fruity side is right so far and the whisky also offers a lot of the sweetness. I would only recommend adding a little water to reduce the sharpness a little. All in all, an exciting dram with beautiful facets.

Yellow and exotic fruits rise from the glass: bananas, pineapples, ripe apples and pears, white vineyard peach, and some acidity in the form of white currants. The first impression: very fruity. The sweetness is rather reserved: birch water and grape sugar. Some fresh birch wood can also be seen. Overall, the whisky appears fruity and fresh; a basket of ripe fruit is most likely to hit it.

Oily sweetness, limes, green apple, white peach. White pepper and a lively mint can be found, but also hints of ripe bananas and white gummy bears. The sweetness comes out better after adding a little water, while the sharpness decreases. The whisky definitely invites you to experiment with strength.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium length with a hint of mint and subdued sweetness. After the reduction with water, the sometimes strong mint note has given way and the whisky appears softer and fruity.
