This is light, green and vegetal. It’s super funky and the nettle smoke really adds something. Good mouthfeel and yup, definitely not something I have ever tasted before. Very interesting this one!
    • Nose
Vegetal smoke at first and quite some nettles too. Very strange, but I really like it actually! Freshly cut grass and tinned spinach. Then dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla. But also some fruits such as pears and Galia melons.
    • Taste
It's very oily this one and quite some liquorice on the arrival. Then a touch of vegetal smoke with again the nettles but maybe not as pronounced as in the nose. Honey and white chocolate. Lemons and ginger. Pine needles, but also green bell peppers.
    • Finish
Mid-long to long, quite vegetal again and a touch of mint.

Extremely unique, fresh, herbal and with a smokiness that's so different but works extremely well.
    • Nose
A distant note of herbal smoke, but also some warm vanilla custard, dark chocolate, tinned pineapple and galia melon, combined with lots of greener notes that I also get when pruning plants in the garden. Notes of love hearts, chalk and damp oak. Neatly balanced too.
    • Taste
Thick, oily mouthfeel. An incredulous type of very green woodsmoke I've never before encountered. Whiffs of licorice root, ginger and a whiff of star anise. Soft spices and a great maltiness as well. Slightly drying.
    • Finish
Herbal and with a tinge of chocolate, as well brown sugar.

Fary Lochan 2014-2021 with 60.9% alc. Matured in Hogshead No. 6.

Nose: A little restless and sharp at first, settles quickly. Then some tropical fruits, melon, some unripe banana, oranges and a hint of grapefruit unfold. Lots of fruit. Behind it malt, it smells a bit like in a distillery. There is also a damp meadow and a distant campfire with wet wood.

Palate: Thick and oily, mouth-filling. The fruit flavors are confirmed. A lot of melon, orange and pineapple, very sweet and only a mild spice.

Finish: medium long, warming. The malt comes out again and with it a light spice, a little cocoa and at the end a pleasantly tingling spiciness (maybe a touch of cinnamon).

Conclusion: I tried it undiluted and that was the right decision. A wonderful whisky, complex and pleasant. 85/100 points (2021)
