What's not to like about this Kyrö by Berry Bros & Rudd?
    • Nose
So luscious and rich, there's plenty of crème caramel, fudge and meringues, but also dark chocolate and pine resin. Lovely spices too, with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg as the highlights. Touches of tobacco, oranges and damp oak, as well as a whiff of aniseed and rye bread. What a triumph.
    • Taste
Thick, sticky and oily with oranges and pine needles, but also warm toast, melted butter and cracked pepper corns. Whiffs of oak, fennel and toffee too, with finally some sunflower seeds.
    • Finish
Long. A hint of milk chocolate, peanut skins and sweet rye bread.

Superb nose, which is quite complex. The palate has a really nice thick texture and plenty of different notes. Now, I’m normally not too fond of rye whisk(e)y but this one wants me to taste more of it. Really well done and quite different to any other rye whisk(e)y I’ve tasted.
    • Nose
It starts a bit fruity, with oranges mostly, which is quickly followed by fresh rye bread. It’s a little bit woody with a touch of wood spices too: cinnamon and nutmeg. Then I get a hint of gooseberries. Milk chocolate, sweet honey and a touch of vanilla. Later also some coconut in the very back.
    • Taste
Oily texture. Sourdough bread and oranges. Fresh sweet raspberries. There’s a light lemon note, but very much in the back. Toffee and a thick layer of honey. Pine needles and almonds. A touch of oak and some spices, such as black pepper and nutmeg.
    • Finish
Long with milk chocolate, oranges and the same spices as on the palate and oak.

Typical Kyrö which in cask strength has a nice texture of herbs, black bread and aniseed.

Kyrö Finnish Malt Rye Whiskey 2016 - 2021 with 54.6% alc. from the Bourbon barrel No. 16037.

Nose: A surprising number of wood tones despite the youth. Cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and walnuts. A light fruit aroma comes through, a lot of sweetness, a bit of vanilla. Shortbread biscuits and maple syrup.

Palate: Sugar-sweet and very, very spicy, plums, apple compote, fruity sweet syrup, with rye, oak wood, espresso and some leather.

Finish: Very long, the sweet fruit aromas are balanced with the spices, nice combination. At the end more bitterness, oak, coffee and cocoa.

Conclusion: So young and so complex, a really great barrel, a real star. Definitely a buy recommendation! 88/100 points
