Lagavulin 16 years, 43% alc. Original bottling (2021). Ageing: Bourbon and Sherry casks

Nose: peat and tar, pleasantly dry smoke. Behind it, in addition to citrus fruits, machine oil and a little rubber. The sweetness increases, orange marmalade next to almonds, salt water and cedar wood, a little leather can also be found.

Palate: Intensely smoky, dry and slightly salty. Liquorice, anise and salmiak next to tar and smoker, various herbs, blood oranges. Also very light cocoa, again the orange marmalade and pickled olives.

Finish: Land and dry, mineral and salty.

Conclusion: Lagavulin has managed to maintain the quality for decades, even if the batches have repeatedly changed minimally over the years. Very beautiful. 86/100 points (2021).

  4. KB201 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

The Lagavulin classic is kilned with a high smoke content in the malt. The stills of the distillery are pear-shaped, so that during the distillation all flavors can be transferred to the condensers. The single malt then matures in bourbon and sherry casks to perfection.

Favorite regular. Compared to earlier releases, this one is drier and smokier. 22/23/22/22

    Very drinkable and delicious whisky.
Excellent balance. Reminds of the old school.
The first and second nose is a mixture of apple cider candies with cherry dry smoke in different proportions. Almost always accompanied by Salt and the Morning Sea Breeze. After inhalation, it turns into cigarette smoke and woody-flavored iodine.
The taste is excellent, dry, enveloping, slightly tannin-sherry. This is the case when the thickness is achieved by taste, not alcohol.
    P.S.
The more you drink, the more you want to put a higher grade ...) Wonderful autumn whisky. I think I miss successful official releases. It seemed that this was all in the past ... Thanks to the distillery for the work!
