Overall a tasty malt, more tart and spicy profile than sweet and fruity. Especially the lingering leather note at the end pulls it out, which is to my liking. For 250 euros, this is still unfortunately not enough for a large bottle for me, I liked the last one from 2019 better and was also 80 euros cheaper (WID 149962).

sweet-spicy; cherries; oranges; rum fruits; slightly burnt caramel; some chocolate; Oak wood
    • Taste
      85 85
tart-spicy, sweetness and fruity notes are more in the background; more and more tart leather towards the finish; Coffee; Oak; Difficult to describe in more detail but I'm missing a bit of "depth"
    • Finish
      87 87
tart-spicy; really delicious persistent leather note; Oak

Alcohol is well integrated. I find the sulphur, which many find annoying, very subtle... but I'm not sensitive to it either
    • Nose
      Oranges and meadow herbs
    • Taste
slight tingling, mixed nuts, leather and some sulphur
    • Finish
      Spicy and dry

  4. Dottore scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Delicious spicy-tart nose (initially) and a leathery-imposing finish. the penetrating matchstick/sulphur note in the mouth and if you smell it for a long time unfortunately ruins a lot... Price-performance ratio unfortunately completely failed...

    Tasted at 1920's Blenders
Strategically unfavorable after the very successful 19028 tasted
Sulfur and Glengoyne sometimes go well together. It's okayish here too. Luckily it only hits the nose.
Not a bad malt overall, but the asking price is unacceptable imho.

Heavily fermented fruit and notes of sulfur - but no matchstick or fleshy, rather old vegetables, compost. Behind these notes then great red fruit notes, quite sweet, strawberry cake. Alcohol not dominant even in 1920, which is a positive surprise.
Conclusion: good glass and time needed to get behind the first wrong grade.
    • Taste
      88 88
For almost 57% a surprisingly mild start, only a slight tingling sensation. No water needed. Behind it dried fruit, rum pot and leather. Dusty but not dry. The sulfur notes of the nose are less noticeable here. Nutty spice joins in, even a little stronger with water.
    • Finish
      89 89
Starts on the classic sherry notes and gets along without bitter notes. Then comes the typical departure of older Glengoynes. That's why I love the distillery.

Complex fruit, strong on entry and strong on the finish, extremely oily. Touch of leather and tobacco. Yes, it's not cheap, but it's one of the best I've had

  7. hawk31 scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

I skim the notes of my predecessors and yes it has a sulphur, especially in the taste. The nose gave me hope for just a small miss. Unfortunately, the cask was not good MoS and this whisky is simply too expensive. You would have to deduct €200.

Old sherry nose, leather, old wardrobe, dark fruits, spice and some sulphur. For me as a sulfur hater but quite bearable. Orange marmalade and quinces shake hands. The alcohol is easily noticeable.
    • Taste
      69 69
Slight grapefruit kick, a little more sulfur in the taste, lots of leather and spice, unfortunately the sulfur takes over and destroys the beautiful aromas.
    • Finish
      84 84
Now more bearable, the sulfur breaks down again and the spice and leather remain.

Best non-smoky whisky in the tasting among 14 participants in the whisky club. Has been highly praised and rated in all respects; but not a tasting winner because it doesn't offer any smoke. That's the way it is when the smoke fans predominate in the club. > Absolutely recommendable in terms of taste. You can think about whether you want to spend a few euros more.

Oh man. The Lovely Goyne profile Ruined by The sulphur here.

  10. SpringBarley scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

Oh no, bad cask, strong sulphurous note, very oaky

Very sorry, but this cask completely ruined the wonderful Glengoyne distillate

Too much leather for me, almost sulphurous. Completely miss the fruitiness that Glengoyne has. Total price-quality unworthy for me.
