Arran from the upper class: A limited edition from the Rare Batch series, fully matured in French oak wine casks that previously held wine from the Bordeaux-Medoc region. The Bordeaux cask gave the whisky a reddish tinge, full maturation over 15 years should have shaped the whisky.

    • Nose
On the nose there are notes of wine, also some fermenting grape must, which cools the alcohol and there is a sweet-tart fruit, grapes, plums and cherries, which mix with slightly bitter oak tones.
    • Taste
In the taste, the wine aromas mix with dark fruits, there is long thickened, slightly burnt plum jam with cinnamon and vanilla as well as spicy cigar tobacco that has not yet been lit. This is the whisky at the end of teatime in the deep armchair with a view over the fields to the Atlantic off the Isle of Arran.
    • Finish
There is a dry woodiness in the aftertaste, which is pleasantly rounded off with wine aromas. The whisky has nice notes of wine and wood with a pleasant bitterness.

A special whisky that has a beautiful wine and oak character and still retains a fresh fruitiness. With prices starting at €160 at the beginning of 2022, it is a decent price... But the sample was delicious.

I like it very much. However, now not 170 € good. The sample was fun, but you don't need a bottle.
    • Nose
blood orange. Sulfured Raisins. Strawberry jam. Red, slightly rotten apple. kirsch. Damp wine cellar. Rotten and damp wood. Bit of tobacco.
    • Taste
Fruit tea with lots of rock candy. Sour cherries thickened with vanilla pudding. A few squeezes of lemon. Acidic notes of wood. Some leather.
    • Finish
Sour Wine Gum. oak seasoning. Not really bitter, but rather becoming dry.

I have to compare this malt with the Explorers series because of the price range. Here the Kildonan & Pladda was my favourite. This malt does not even come close to any of this series. There is no comparison to be made at all. Unfortunately.
In this respect, the rating is poor, especially for this ambitious price region.

Freshly poured in, very sour and tart... just wait...
Gets better after a while, red wine influence noticeable. Red fruits, subtle. Plus the light Arran acid. And then again cucumber barrel. No...really not...

After the first sip, my nose feels like it. A little clueless. I'll do it like the tea ceremony. The first sip only prepares the palate...
The second is supposed to transfer the taste. Well, a little fruit, a little dry. Somehow very unspectacular and almost watery for the abv.
The 2nd dram helps a little, then it becomes slow. After 70cl it could be quite good.

Yes, should I say, this hint of nothingness is the strongest thing about this malt? After all, if you send it very carefully, the finish is really tasty, albeit on the limit of perceptibility. With more intensity there would have been 7-8 more points.

    Very well integrated and rounded.
    • Nose
Dried cranberries, panettone with rum, olive oil, paper sheets, sulfur, old wood. With water: becomes kinda rubbery
    • Taste
First I thought I was licking fresh wood:) carpenter's shop, seed oil, fennel, spices, dried jam. With water: it becomes hazy, but remains woody: resin and fresh wood cutting.
