  1. Archer scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Bruichladdich used to not be my thing, but the master class tasting at Fèis Ìle 2021 was my initial spark to rediscover the distillery. The Bere Barley sample that came with the Fèis Ìle tasting blew me away, as did the Bere Barley 2010 that I ordered later during the tasting. This Bere Barley 2011 goes one better and I'm absolutely amazed at how easily this whisky hits the 90-point mark.
    • Nose
Like its predecessor, the 2011 edition of the Bere Barley appears reserved at first glance. But this restraint hides a variety of aromas that can be sensed right from the start. This is not a nose that pushes the aromas into your nostrils, rather it wants to be explored and penetrated. Pure and clear, with plum jam, rhubarb compote, vanilla, honey, a meadow full of spring flowers. The longer you smell it, the more intensely the aromatic tableau spreads out in front of you: fresh yeast dough, marzipan, café au lait. Again, no sign of the presence of the old laddie rag.
    • Taste
So soft and creamy and at the same time so crunchy...cereals, malt, vanilla, honey, marzipan and yeast dough. While no special spicy aromas could be identified on the nose, a very pleasant spiciness spreads in the mouth, which harmonizes very nicely with the other aromas. Apricots, peaches, quince jelly.
    • Finish
Here, too, parallels can be drawn with the predecessor: the finish is surprisingly long for such a comparatively young whisky. Everything that was found in the nose and on the palate romps until the end, when it exits with a pleasantly dry spiciness.
