init price in Germany: 1111 Euros

Funny how the blue and green shirts are firing high level ratings again while there is no open bottle in any collection here

a whisky that has been lying in the barrel for too long. There is hardly anything left of the smoke and the character of the distillery is overlaid by the dominant oak taste. It's a shame - I expected more complexity.
    • Nose
      88 88
Sweetness, vanilla, lots of bourbon cask; also oak (bitter substances) and wood
    • Taste
      85 85
Oak totally dominates and superimposes everything else; woody, bitter substances, dry and tart; intense in taste, but little or no complex
    • Finish
      84 84
      long finish, bitter, woody

Glowing ash, moist gauze bandage on charcoal.
After standing in the glass, the smoke evaporates except for a hint.
The smoke gives way to various fruits: pineapple, lychee, passion fruit, pithaya. Vanilla and tonka bean.
Wood notes are also noticeable, wood glaze.
A sea breeze on the beach.
A very complex nose that develops over time and has a lot to discover.

Creamy mouthfeel, vanilla and mango, but also a lot of oak. From memory it is more oak-heavy than Book 1 and less fruity.
A slightly salty note joins the ash, like charred flambé salmon.

Oak, vanilla and some fruit. The spicy and dry notes almost wrestle with the vanilla and sweet notes with a little bit of fruit.

For my taste, book 3 cannot keep up with the beautiful fruitiness of book 1. The oak is a bit too tart for me, the finish too dry. It's a beautiful whisky, but it also has its weaknesses, especially when compared to Book 1

    Very nice, bright golden color.
N: fruity, sweet, smoked pineapple, light smoke, no alcohol to be felt, tropical fruits, fresh wood in the forest, but also a very soft, light note, almost creamy, a lot happens, really great nose!

G: Smoke and peat, here it shows strength, typical Laphroaig aromas, somewhat dry, but warming and mouth-filling, powerful, light woodiness.

A: soft smoke note, woody, white pepper, a bit bitter, but cozy fireplace smoke stays in the mouth.

Overall great drop, but the nose is the best, simply outstanding!

Typical Laphroaig and one of the best I've ever tasted ...

Hmm, to be honest, "disappointed" me a bit, as the expectations after the outstanding book 1 and excellent book 2 were already extremely high. At first it is quite closed and peppery in the mouth, with water it becomes more mineral, fruity and sweeter. Super balanced, but somehow something is missing. Possibly also due to the price-performance ratio ... From a 2cl sample

Light citrus fruits, phenols and smoke, maritime notes, wood - very elegant and balanced with a retro character.

Over time, there will be more smoke, pepper, hazelnuts, seaweed and peach. The malt is becoming more and more delicate. Finally there are hints of old leather, books, jam and charcoal.

Complex, balanced, dignified. I also note some parallels to the Ardbeg Lord of the Isles from the same vintage, with the Ardbeg being smokier in comparison.
    • Taste
      92 92
Pepper, ginger, dry wood, wax, citrus fruits, smoke and charcoal, salty caramel, sea air.
    • Finish
      91 91
Clear and comparatively intense smoke, again light citrus fruits and oak, various spices - wonderfully complex and very long.
