Fresh tropical fruit, pineapple, mango with some longan. Sweet flora note, white flower and honey. Some citrusy, vanilla, ginger with a little hint of white pepper.
Medium + intensity and complex flavour

A bit closed (it's winter in Brooklyn) but this is a floral and fruity Ben Nevis for sure.

Nice soft entry for a Nevis, but boy, this is beautiful stuff... fruity, yellow sunflowers (quite floral) and sunshine and all things good with whisky. It doesn't have a high ABV, which makes it more approachable I guess, but also makes it more complex strangely because you can taste the flavors without the noise from the etOH. This is like one of those fruity Irish, but with a certain nuttiness, earthiness, and oakiness that makes it a bit more complex.

Beautiful soft finish... even the burp I made at the end is nice and floral.

Excellent Ben Nevis, in my top of 1996 vintage. A fruits basket with a touch of minerality. Tasty and moreish.
    • Nose
Honey, fragrant tropical and yellow fruits (white peaches, pineapples, mangoes, lime), floral notes, leather, light spicy notes, hints of chalk.
    • Taste
Once again very fruity with pineapples, mangoes, pink grapefruits, passion fruits. Honey and floral notes. A touch of chalk again. A light sourness in the background.
    • Finish
Long, lingering fruits, mineral and mentholated notes.

Amazing dram! Peach cobbler, passion fruit, mango. Exotic bomb above all, but also some waxiness, some minerals.
    Very good !

Unfortunately, some memories of a sample gone so wrong to come back to mind every time I drink this, that it influences my tastebuds. Burnt tyres, stomach acid, orang pulp, metallic rusted water. A tinge of the bitterness of morning bile.

If I had not tasted all that have gone wrong, I would say there's heather, vanilla, cream, toffee pudding, and coriander.

    Sniff:
The initial wave of citrus is unmistakable. Quite some orange, but heaps of lemons follow that. Some coriander seeds for a bit of spiciness. Somehow, it reminds me of rye whisky, with the citrus and spice combination, but much more gentle and a bit more rich too. A whiff of mint, gentle oak and fresh barley. After half an hour it gets a bit more foresty with ferns and moss.

    Sip:
It’s gentle on the arrival, with orange and lemon leading the way again. Fresh grain, freshly cut oak and spices. Even though spices are important (and I’m very bad at indicating which is which) it’s not a harsh whisky at any point. The palate has some vanilla and other orchard fruits (apples and pears), but mostly lemon.

    Swallow:
The finish focuses on fresh lemons and a bit of lemon balm more than the palate did. It’s more in line with the nose. Some notes of vanilla and pastry too, with the spices coming back after a couple of seconds. That rye whisky like thing again.

A fruity Ben Nevis with these likeable tropical notes, also a bit chalky and mineral, really enjoyable

It's great that there are still barrels from this great vintage. Before tasting, I was curious whether the bottling could keep up with my personal benchmarks from TheWhiskyJury.
    and it can!
I would recommend everyone to sniff the whisky in a glass with a larger opening (e.g. wine glass).
The great tropical fruits come out much better from the Riedel Vinum Tasting Glass than, for example, from a Glencairn or the 1920s Blenders Glass.
    • Nose
      91 91
Tropical fruit mix with pineapple and passion fruit, mango, unfree banana, wax (from the Riedel actually 92P ..)
    • Taste
      91 91
Passion fruit, pineapple, but the combination is a little less ripe than on the nose, alcohol noticeable, but tingling pleasantly
    • Finish
      90 90
long, oil, waxy, green banana and unripe pineapple, some vanilla

    Ben Nevis 24 yo 1996 (45,6%, Wu Dram Clan 2021, hogshead #1408, 290 btl.)

Nose: a generous, ripe fruitiness full of exotic touches. Pineapples, guavas, lime, mango. Lychee as well. Hints of buttery pastry, wildflowers, some wax candles and a whiff of leather. Pretty direct, pretty sexy too.

Mouth: a perfect fruit basket à la Bowmore, full of pineapple, pink grapefruit, guava, mango, with hints of passion fruits. Oily notes, paraffin. Floral honey and a hint of verbena. Some chalky / mineral notes in the background, but the fruits are in pole position.

Finish: long, with some green notes and menthol creeping in, but still plenty of these luscious tropical fruits.

We already knew 1996 is a year of fruit juice for this distillery, but we’re still in awe when we get such a pure example. Brilliant whisky in my opinion and it’s good to see a few casks are still around.

Very fruity, mango, overripe peaches, apples / pears, oranges, some liquorice and marzipan. Subtle waxy notes, white pepper, lychee. Very slight "fruity" bitterness on the palate, like grapefruit.

Fruit bomb, no missing notes, very tasty.

  23. Antiseptisches scored this whisky 91 points Expert Junior

Those who love the typical fresh character of the 1996 bottling will enjoy this one. An incredibly fruity and fresh Ben Nevis with passion fruit and peach notes. Followed by wood and a pleasant note of vanilla and honey.
    Very tasty.

Peaches, exotic fruits with lots of passion fruit, some pears, waxy honey. Everything you need in a summer whisky.
