It is funky, oaky, different and probably could only have been made at Glen Scotia.
    • Nose
Touches of resin and pine needles. Mashed potatoes too, as well as cloves and some leather, followed by burnt toast and stewed apples. Finally a hint of charred orange peel. The oak is very powerful.
    • Taste
An oily mouthfeel, but pretty dry and plenty of oak. Whiffs of plastic rope, cracked black peppercorn, fennel and coffee grounds. Even some earthy, rooty influences. It's funky allright.
    • Finish
Menthol, tobacco and lingering spices. Long.

A good expression of Glen Scotia. Price quality wise very well in balance, bought multiple bottles to drink later.
    • Nose

A little sweet, some bread, some moss and earth. Damp forest notes in here too. Quite a nose I like.
There is some fruitiness and nuttiness in the background. Like standing in a shop which sells nuts and dried fruits.
With water makes this one open up really nicely!
Very odd nose, like hardy and sweet together. Smoked fish and nuts is something which pops up in my mind.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweet, candied oranges. Very oily mouthfeel. Some pepper from the alcohol and a little sugar sting.
With water: Burst of vanilla and fruity sweetness. Some barley notes here too. Little sugary.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long length. A bit of an odd taste here which tend to laurel. Fades away with some cream and sugar.
With water: a pleasing bitter note shows up, more and more cream and a hint of toffee.

Not your average daily dram for sure. But that is why I like Glen Scotia; sometimes a miss, but very often a hit at a decent price.
    • Nose
      88 88
Immediately an odd smell. Musty, earthy, woody but quite sweet. With some drops of water hints of pepper and sherry. But all together the cask had big influence.
    • Taste
      88 88
Oily structure. Dominant oak flavors. Spicy (pepper), hints of coffee and overripe oranges. There is some rotten signature here. But that works fine here (where it did not work for this Scotia WB163124).
    • Finish
      87 87
Long finish. Musty oak flavors till the final end.

Another Glen Scotia in the catogory: you like it or you don't.

I really like these kinds of whisky. It's odd, different, not a standard kind of dram. Very varied, with a nice mixture of earthy, slightly peaty notes and fruitiness, with a spicy touch on it.
A lot to discover for sure, very pleasant experience.
    • Nose
      87 87
Immediately an odd combination of aroma's. Some hints of peat, pines, oranges, earthiness, all together. Spicy. Quite some alcohol. Later on even some farmy notes, hay, cow stable. And then hints of caramel. Although it's pretty modest, there's plenty of variety, but you have to take some time and effort to discover.
    • Taste
      88 88
Pretty powerful, spicy. Orange and a touch of bitter orange zest, pepper, licorice, earthy, thick and creamy structure, with far away a peaty touch. Then more sweetness in the palate, even some fudge/caramel.
    • Finish
      88 88
Still powerful, warming, spicy. Orange, earthy, some hints of ash and woodsmoke, although more to the background. Licorice again, pretty long finish. Some tobacco. Later something remains like a kind of fruitiness hard to describe.
