Hearty and very spicy. Expresses as strong without water. Mmm Flaming Heart.

Jim Murray has awarded 92 points to the Flaming Heart 10th Anniversary.
"This one, as Flaming Heart so often is, is about counterweight and mouth feel. Everything appears just where it should be..."

Nose: Just a touch of peach. Some orange and a hint of pear. Yes, there’s a bit of peat and smoke, but it’s very clean and crisp. A slight peppery bite. Slightly lemon biscuity. I can still get the malted barley. The smoke is well checked here.

Palate: Big orange note. A fair bit of vanilla. Some perfume-y notes (very pleasant). A whiff of smoke. Nice grain/oak balance. This is an incredibly smooth easy drinker.

    Colour: Gold.
Nose: Nicely smoky and peaty, round and harmonious, with light
    fresh floral notes.
Taste: Juicy, fresh, peaty, maritime, slightly waxy, with
some seaweeds, light floral and sweet fruity notes. Very well made. The finish
is long, peaty, smooth, round, floral, with some juicy undertones. Very long
    peaty retro-olfaction.
General Impression: A very much enjoyable, well made
and harmonious whisky. Very good work by Compass Box (John Glaser).

Don't take my score too seriously. For whatever reason, it's lightning in a bottle for me.
    • Nose
smoke more than peat, but also a light, refined creaminess with fruit.
Grapefruit, lemon drops and lemon cream. Lively and fresh. The fruit
plays a bit nervously under the smokiness. It comes out at times, and
also hides behind it. You can tell that there's a spirit there, but it
just tops in at a pleasant level. More of 'hay' in the smoke, and a
      slightly coastal quality.
    • Taste
No water needed, and really should be avoided. A little deliciously
oily. Delicious. The smoke, unsurprisingly, leads, but quickly pulls up
like a theater curtain, giving way to the complex performance
underneath. A trace of smoke remains, adding a seductive quality,
drawing attention to the lovely display below, but also creating an
appeal for more smoke - thus it's the perfect amount. Flavors of lemon
(creamy), flaxseed oil, vanilla, and oak. Other fruit is also present,
papaya and mango, but very calm. There's also some bitterness, but more
in a balancing way on the palate.
    • Finish
Like the palate, but more refined. The fruit and grapefruit become more
obvious, as does the creaminess, and it melds with the smoke to create a
really gorgeous finish, and more than the blend of its parts.

Excellent balance of peat & sweet. But no surprises & the nose is on the weaker side

    Single dram note:
Transferring previous Note (2011.11.30) content into a Tasting Note.
    • Nose
      quite faint, peaty, 81
    • Taste
      nice cereal nutty sweetness, 86
    • Finish
quite lengthy, peat, smoke, sweet vanilla.89

Nose: Salty maritime, vanilla, lemon and grapefruit, peppery smoky, just hints of peat.
Taste: Salt, lime, leather, muesli, perfumes, vanilla and subtle wood flavors, peat and strong salty smoke.
Finish: Medium long, becoming increasingly dry, wood is bitter, only minor fruit juices.
    81 points (nose: 81 / taste: 82 / finish: 80)

A complex and smoky malt whisky with a

rich, sweet, spicy fruitiness and a long, lingering finish.

Beautiful label, nice bottle, good whisky!

Bottled to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Compass Box whisky
company, for whom the epithets `tireless`, `innovative` and `pioneering`
might have been invented, this Flaming Heart is a vatting of Highland
Malt from a village near Brora, with some smoky
Island/Islay malts. The label and packaging, it goes without saying,
are stunning. Bottled at a good natural drinking strength. Good work Mr. Glaser!
