Whisky Reviews for Auchentoshan 18-year-old

It's about time to return to the Lowlands, a whisky region often overlooked and underestimated by connoisseurs. Auchentoshan 18 is reminiscent of a flower garden with ripe citrus fruits, pipe tobacco and hints of green tea. Crème brûlée, milk chocolate and oak spices (cinnamon and nutmeg) unfold a complex aroma. Spicy and gingery in the arrival, the taste develops mildly bitter and grainy with notes of vanilla, brown sugar and roasted nuts. The finish is understated, cask-dominated and fades quickly. All in all, a sound but fairly overpriced Single Malt.

[December, 2013]  I found this dram in a commercial advents calendar.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 82,5.  I took no detailed notes and never bought a commercial advents calender again.

  3. Archer scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

He has his qualities on the tongue, but the finish is a bit too modest to make the 18 YO a well-balanced malt.
    • Nose
Some vanillin and heather. The alcohol is penetrating and easily scratching.
    • Taste
Mild spices. Tobacco, leather. A mixture of different nuts and almonds. At the back, the oak barrel shows itself.
    • Finish
Short to medium. He disappears quite fast and leaves the Lowland mildness on the tongue.

  4. Rom did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

Nose flowers, vanilla, lime, almond. Mouth almond paste, malt. Finish short. Disappointing.

Sweet-spicy, creamy-mild, gradually builds up woody-spicy aroma - then a little bit bitter
Later not so spicy, rather slightly bitter woody
    • Finish
      88 88
Slightly nutty, dark chocolate, coffee, wood, dry
Quite long, with a pleasant intensity
