An exclusive bottling from The Single Malts of Scotland series for cherry whisky. Two casks were filled, there is no further information on the type of cask. The whisky matured between 2013 and 2021, the age stated on the label is 6 years. Even if the clocks tick differently in Scotland, that can't be the case, he would have to be at least 7 years old. Which is still quite young. The whisky is correspondingly light.

    • Nose
The whisky is also young on the nose, typical cereal malt aromas. Sweetness is there, but the fruitiness is limited, there is more of a herbal spiciness. Add some vanilla and then the fruit, steamed apples and some wood. But none of that is spectacular, Refill Bourbon at seven years old - you shouldn't expect much. But not a little...
    • Taste
Malt sweetness comes on the palate, but it doesn't become sticky, herbs, wood, which is quite present for the age but not too old, but with a pleasant mustiness. There are fruit candies, peach-flavored iced tea. The taste is not so bad and better than expected at seven years.
    • Finish
The finish is not very pronounced, some wood, some fruit and then it's over.

The whisky costs just over €40, which is ok. It is not old but still drinkable, the herbal note provides an early complexity that is not very pronounced due to its age. The malt sweetness makes it a smooth whisky and the oak is good, present but not overpowering. A nice after-work dram.

I truly believe this was matured in casks seasone with very young (< 2 years) Oloroso - which is almost the same as white wines with only minimal oxidative tastes. The massive spice spike almost ruins the whole experience for me, even though it's diluted down to 48%.
    • Nose
Young Oloroso/white wine, some raisins, yogurt, ripe tropical fruits, some soap, vanilla
    • Taste
Oily texture, Oloroso fruitiness, grapes, tangerines, spicy, almost astringent, grapeseeds, hint of metallic tinge
    • Finish
Spicy, some raw breaddough, astringent oak, cacao nibs

The first tasting of 2 drams with approx. 3cl each and about 20 minutes each in the glass, immediately after opening the bottle.
The whisky smells malty and of damp soil. There is also a note of light polish with medium-aged leather. He can't hide his sweetness, but I can't explain it, the former smells are too strong.
The taste is malty and sweet at first. There are also mushrooms on moist soil. I still can't exactly pinpoint the origin of the sweet. At most, an apricot will come through as a fruit. The 48% start with fresh ginger. He doesn't need more percentages, although he doesn't look too young. I would probably have put it blindly in the region of 6-10 years, but maybe also in the region of 8-10 years.
The aftertaste is rather short and without a lasting taste. At best, the sweetness paired with the spiciness lasts for a moment.
A nice whisky with a good PLV, but nothing more.

Metal and sulfur, mushrooms. Very mild. Not my style.

  12. olegborgol scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Young Nevis, mushrooms in the swamp, but well developed. You need to give a lot of time, if in a bottle, then open, drink and leave for two weeks.

Not bad at all, the youngster! Very tasty and just right in terms of alcohol content. Not uncomplicated at all.
Can be done well for ~ 40 €.
    • Nose
      87 87
As funky as you want your Nevis to be: long sourdough, freshly cooked grape jelly, pineapple chips, a little rosemary shampoo, oily rag from the workshop - in short: wonderful, like a piece of olfactory everyday life!
    • Taste
      85 85
Ginger with honey, chili oil, the first slight bite quickly subsides (there are still milk teeth on the boy!) And makes room for grapeseed oil, naturally sweet grapefruit and moist, fresh wool.
    • Finish
      84 84
Exit? Well, he has not even seen a year of painting school, he has not yet mastered the very high art of tree sap. But it's not out of round either, just get away quickly.

  15. DGV scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

90% of representatives of this distillery are distinguished by an interesting profile and not a standard combination of aromas and taste. This sample is also no exception. Despite its young age, the whisky turned out to be round, with a good range of derivatives at all stages of tasting, and the strength of 48% gives it confidence in taste and finish, while the aroma remains comfortable for perception.
    • Nose
A damp rag, canned peaches, expanded clay, a little lacquer paint, "Fondant" candy.
    • Taste
Citrus, metallic tones, light smoke, apple pits.
    • Finish
Long, sweet, with a moderate bitterness. Apples with mineral smoky shades.

  16. DerDennis! scored this whisky 84 points Specialist

This is unmistakably a Ben Nevis. Mildly spicy, with lots of wood, vanilla and malt, typical Nevis herbs, flowery, lavender. Not particularly complex and clearly very young. Despite everything, very close to the 10th. Another three years in the barrel and that would have been a great whisky. So it is neat and PLV-wise, definitely recommendable.

A bargain for this taste quality, really tasty.
    • Nose
      85 85
Very sweet with intense malt and toffee aromas, sulfur (possibly also called campfire smoke) appears.
    • Taste
      90 90
I also taste what I smell, accompanied by some oak wood, salt and peppery spiciness.
    • Finish
      80 80
The sweetness gives way to a slight bitterness in the medium-long finish, with a dash of coffee aroma.
