Whisky Reviews for Glenrothes 1994

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 83.13 points

  1. HunterRomario scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

The blind specimen from Króc (thank you!) Did not completely overwhelm me, damaging the bitterness at the end. Otherwise, according to my records, the first Glenrothes.
    • Nose
Simpler malt odor. Spice with honey, some herbal (a bunch of dried herbs), vanilla. (83 b)
    • Taste
Oak, bitter chocolate, significantly malt. Although it initially acts on the tongue of vanilla-honey sweetish, it gradually passes through spiciness to a rather pronounced wood-citrus bitterness. (81 b)

    Glenrothes, 1994 Vintage (Scotland)
The most recent Vintage to be released by The Glenrothes dates from 1994, and, according to a Glenrothes spokesman, or the 1994 Vintage, Malt Master John Ramsay was tasked to create the most stimulating and uplifting expression of The Glenrothes. Through meticulous cask selection and the experience of a lifetime in whisky, John has succeeded in combining the trademark flavour profile of The Glenrothes the emphasis on citrus, spice and vanilla with the added twist of lemon zestiness on the finish. A soft yet citric nose, with vanilla fudge. Fresh and approachable, with more citric notes, especially lemon. The finish is medium to long, fruity and gingery. A lithe, clean-limbed Glenrothes. Yet again, this malt surprises with its infinite variety. 43.0% ABV, 70cl, 37.00, specialist whisky merchants.

Notes are from a Glenrothes 1994 bottled in 2006.

Nose: Sweet, barley sugar, candy cane, vanilla, marzipan, fresh citrus fruit (lemon, apple, orange).

    Taste: sweet, luscious, smooth
Finish: More spicy. Sweetness fades away, leaves a light bitter.

Adding a drop of water opens it up. More fruits pop up and the finish becomes more complex and mellows out the bitterness.

Slightly fruity in the nose. Soft citrus fruits with a nice sherry delight on the tongue. A nice medium spicy finish. Round, honest, genuine. A wonderful 12 year old from Speyside. Pleasantly soft to drink, nothing complicated.
