First tried with 30 mins of air, then another after 2 hours. Unable to continue further due to the hardcore smoke and disgusting taste. Left it to sit in an air-con room for 30 hours and it was still not cloudy, however, all the smoke has dissipated leaving only a sweet, fruity and bright flavor profile that was quite enjoyable. Just like a basic Lagavulin 16 without the peat.

Definitely interesting, but it's not for me. Wouldn't drink again.
    • Nose
      60 60
Roasted coffee burns, car exhaust, extremely heavy smoke, and smog, burnt meat to cinders.
    • Taste
      79 79
Old dusty shelves, hay, baked sausages, dark chocolate, raisins, oven grease.
    • Finish
      80 80
Warm and lengthy, dry. Coffee, cigar ash, and burnt cabbage.

I'm sorry but someone else can drink that. And I've tried it more than once. Technically I could maybe give more points but I don't want to. But maybe it is a satirical whisky? But I didn't laugh either.

Was excited to try this new edition and see what Diageo had been able to do with the Guinness cask on one of my favourite Whiskies.

Let’s start with the fast it is an 11 year old Lagavulin. That alone makes this a very drinkable dram. Nicely medicinal and flavourful, smooth and lingering. Then comes the cask. There is definitely an influence with hints of mocha, toasted vanilla and coffee. However, if only had been left for maybe 12 months plus this would have been a completely different animal. The marriage is without doubt one made in heaven, juts needs so much more time to take on the Guinness influence. So slightly disappointed, just hoping in the future they take a bit more of a plunge and age for longer.

Wow! This was remarkably different from the Offerman Edition last year. While that had a lovely salty-maritime profile which leaned heavily into classic Lagavulin malt and not a lot of obvious cask influence, this went an entirely different direction. This was absolutely brimming with soft chocolatey notes. While a subtle maritime influence appeared here and there it appeared as a sweet brine or salted chocolate. Briny and medicinal notes sat in the passenger seat on this mild and approachable dram. I was surprised how much influence those Guinness casks had, I assume they are the reason this came off so chocolatey.
    • Nose
Roasty, chocolate, and subtle maritime. Opened right away to notes of cocoa powder, milk chocolate, and sweet roasty char. Typical Lagavulin notes of salty maritime and herbal medicinal lingered in the background. Cacao processing: from roasted cacao nibs, to earthy husks, to floral raw materials.
    • Taste
Medium bodied with a soft profile of chocolate, roast-char, and herbal notes. Slightly burnt brownie edges came to mind with notes of malty pastries, chocolate, and char. A mild salt with salted chocolate carried throughout while herbal notes developed with more time and led to smoked tea, tobacco, and a medicinal compress.
    • Finish
Lingering mild notes of charcoal and chocolate.

1628) Lagavulin, 11YO, Offerman Edition, 2nd Edition, Finished In Guinness Casks (2021)
    • Nose
N- Begin with smoky fruits...ala Laga style in the puffy sphere. Rubbed eucalyptus oils on palm that sooth the nasal. Bottled at 46% as the regular 16YO, this appeared subtle on the peat reeks with dark caramel, roasted nuts, coffee spent and relatable to the Guinness nuances as it intended without overrun by the oak. Whispering dram with moderation for casual sips with no lack of enjoyment. (86/20)
    • Taste
P- Initial lovely bright sweet fruit and fresh peat on the tip of tongue. As it flow through, get tastier with more apparent strength on the mouth-coating and salt filled sea sprays. (86/20)
    • Finish
F- Medium, the finishing calls for simplicity, touch of unoffensive sweetness, roasted malt, medicinal and freshness. (85/19)

B/B- 86/20 With fine characters but lack depth, an easy drinking peated malt.

      Weighted Rate- 79pt

Smell: the salty smell of raw nuts, grains, disinfected water, iodine, and sea water. Wake up, there is some fat, vanilla, creamy chocolate, green plants and lemon zest. Relatively fresh, the taste of bourbon barrels dominates, and the flavor of beer barrels is not noticeable too much. 84/100
Taste: seafood, salted fish, chopped rosemary, creamy seafood pasta, walnut oil, salty and bitter tastes are obvious. The latter part becomes softer, nut crisp, butter cake, marshmallow 85/100
Body: Normally oily, medium body 84/100
Ending rhyme: long, spearmint, walnut film outside, oak
Overall: 84.5/100, the second half of the flavor has some unique flavors and is relatively soft, but the overall is quite satisfactory, and the beer barrels hardly leave any marks. The flavor is similar to Laga 8 years, but it is softer and easier to drink than that.

    • Nose
Green wood, seaweed, driftwood, coffee beans (dark).
    • Taste
Smoky coffee with a stouty richness. Bit of spice and herbs. Slightly medicinal, but a background player.
    • Finish
A chocolatey stout note, bitter. It’s hard to describe without putting it in the context of the finish of a stout or a rich, chocolately porter. Long.
