A UK Exclusive from Carn Mor from a single PX butt. This reminds me of the more modern, dark PX sherry influences, which I can only say is a good thing! Value (£65) : 8/10
    • Nose
The nose has quite some depth to it. It has plenty of those sweet, stewed red. fruits you classically get from sherry like prunes, Maraschino cherries, and rasberries. Plenty of almost burnt sugars. I also get a good helping of bitter dark chocolate that is not overpowering, it only adds to the flavour profile by balancing out those initial sugars. I then get a light note of nail polish remover from the alcohol. There is some oak influence as well with fresh wood shavings and some old leather notes. Then the spice comes through with some freshly cracked black pepper.
    • Taste
Mouthcoating and a touch drying in texture. Big notes of Sweet, spicy and bitter coat the entire palate. A spoonful of creme caramel along with a side of sweet stewed fruits, almost jam-like turns the sweetness up. Then the dark chocolate returns, now even higher in concentration at about 80-90% bringing additional richness and almost a cloying-like sensation now. I get prickles of spice all over the palate now and again, difficult to say if its from the oak or the ABV but it is very nicely warming.
    • Finish
Medium to long in length, the finish retains most of that sweetness but it is the darker, richer notes that dominate here. Drying tannins remind me of chewing on tea or tobacco leaves, the dark chocolate is more upfront now and that heat returns to more flavourful black pepper spice.

A very serious sherried whisky, no flaw but rather dry
