    nose:
    candy sugar, dusty old wood,
exotic fruits in basket, made banana, vanilla
it becomes caramelized on the custard and very sweet
    stuffy:
    sweet spices, honey, vanilla again,
exotic fruits with banana, sweet pear, juicy, excellent mouthfeel
peppery, woody return on dusty shavings, on a grated almond kernel
spray with salt, a little kelp at once which further increases the pleasure
    final:
heat that spreads, spicy, spicy even, the edge of the mouth takes for its grade and a very pleasant iodine-sweet-fruity finish!

    be careful with water
a malt that is complex but also enjoyable
    Nose and palate please
if the price is right a purchase candidate but 100€ is too much
    • Nose
typical rum finish nose, slightly sour note, dark caramel, crispbread, minimal smoke, cinnamon comes (+rice pudding), sweetness, spicy
with water: sweeter, oak, mini cheese, cereal

from the 1920s: sweet, a weird note, molasses, herbs, mini cheese decreases, a note I can't name
with water: more of the cheese note, raspberry ?
    • Taste
      soft, silky
earthy (forest floor), spicy (different), chocolate ~75%, some smoke, slightly banana

with water: tart, slightly gummy, green tea ?
    • Finish
      medium to long
mini gum/workshop, tart, spicy, chocolate ~70%

with water: very tart!!, burnt coffee

A very intriguing little dram, this! Layered and complex, bringing a lot of nuanced flavours to the party. The way this baby evolves from nose to finish, bringing in new notes every step of the way, only adds to experience. Good, very good indeed!
    • Nose
Give it some time on the nose as the ABV does jump out with a bit of a sting and a soapy note. Come back after 15 odd minutes and things have settled nicely. Dried malt with a heather/grassy note. A bit of mouldy wood, but not in a bad way. I do like a whisky with a bit of a funk to it, so this suits me rather well. It’s delicate, almost shy even, with a suggestion of sweet barleywine. It’s down to that heathery note, otherwise I’d never have guessed this being a ‘Secret Orkney’. Let’s try this with a drop of water. It opens up, more accessible. That soapiness I initially picked up now transforms into a light floral sweetness and finally the rum cask’s there with a tropical combo of pineapple and something mango-ish, soft spices, a sweet - peppery note, honey and vanilla.
    • Taste
This continues on the palate: all that fruity-floral heather notes are there, but now something salty and cereal joins in. Medium-full mouthfeel, with the mixture of spices, fruit and floral notes making for a pleasant balance between bitter-sweet and sweet & sour. With the added water that soapy sweetness and herbaceous heather notes become more lively.
    • Finish
A new surprise waits in the fairly long, lingering finish, where warm spices are joined all of a sudden by a woody – ashy note, accentuated even further with that drop of water.

  4. CIB914 scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    • Taste
strong start, fruity, sweet, fruit compote, banana, pear, vanilla
      peppery
    • Finish
      warming, long-lasting, fruity-sweet
