It is good, pleasant and easy to drink, though to my tongue the batch is tamed by a few tads too much. My first choice would always be to turn to single casks like the characterful stunning casks 665 and 666.

But this of course is always the debate of batch vs. single cask...

    • Nose
Herbs, gum, lemon, almost citrus cleaner, menthol, caramel, some marzipan, freshly cut grass, apricot, peach, some grain, overripe tangerine, some burnt wood
    • Taste
Apricot, burnt caramel, dark bread, lemon, herbs, a bit of wood, a rather unpleasant spiciness at the end

The palate can't quite keep up with the nose, which is much more refined and delicate comparatively.
    • Nose
A floral first impression (rose petals) followed by a heavy sherry influence, although not to the point of domineering the spirit. Lots of sultanas, some walnuts, pralines and fermented grapes. There's a whiff of mint and aniseed in the background. Very clean and crisp.
    • Taste
Very oily, but quite an aggressive arrival. The oak is fairly dominant, but it's also fairly spicy and alcoholic. Lots of cloves, some coconut shavings and a fair amount of black pepper. I also get burnt toast and hints of fennel, with sweetness from toffee and crème caramel.
    • Finish
More toffee as well as some mint. Medium in length.

The nose is really nice, clean and clear, sherry is dominant but I'm still surprised that it comes across as soft and harmonious. More like the really light, sweet sherry, grapes, dark apples, everything is not very complex, but still enjoyable and the alcohol is super integrated without any disturbing or spicy elements. 87

Wow, unfortunately it falls off sharply here. Rather in the direction of spicy, a little young, a little out of round and the development becomes more bitter and remains more alcoholic. It's still good to drink, but that's not a real whisky indulgence for me.
It's a shame, the nosing was really nice and the tasting can't keep the harmony. 83

    Departure too alcoholic 82

This seventh Signature Edition from St. Kilian pleases with a nice balance of sweetness and nuttiness, which, together with the dry sherry aromas and herbs, create a beautiful harmony in the glass. Perfectly bottled at a slightly higher drinking strength, which also allows playing with a few drops of water. No off-flavours or metallic notes that could indicate the young age. On the contrary: the alcohol is already very well integrated and the sweet, nutty and herbal notes offer the whisky lover an aromatic pleasure that already shows character and depth.

I thank St. Kilian Distillers for the complimentary sample!

    • Nose
Initially sultanas on the nose, mixed with dark fruits soaked in dry sherry. In addition, ripe peaches, walnut and discreet herbal notes, primarily sage and mint.
    • Taste
Dry sweetness of sultanas, dark fruits and walnut on the palate. This is accompanied by ripe peaches and creamy malt sweets, with warming hints of aromatic oak, fresh mint and sage.
    • Finish
The finish is long and creamy with a spicy warmth, accompanied by fine sherry notes, honey, malt sweets as well as ripe walnut.

With water: After adding a few drops of water, there are noticeably more herbal notes on the nose, along with more ripe walnut, dry sherry and the delicious sultanas. More spicy and tingling on the palate with oak and a touch of pepper. Creamy malt sweets with a little less walnut and herbal notes towards the finish. The finish is still long, creamy and warming with dry sherry and a hint of oak.

This is the first St. Kilian that I have tried, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Plenty of fruity flavor, dried fruits and nice and smooth.
I look forward to trying more from this German distillery.

      Spicy finish, not too short.

Aroma sweet, sherry, fresh herbs, nutty, raisin, orange. Varied nose. You can really take your time for your nose, it's worth it

Taste smooth at the beginning, briefly artificial sweetness,
then transition to sherry sweetness (artificial sweetness disappears), chocolate, raisins, even more px sherry, become slightly spicy at the back

Finish, cannot hide the youth, tannins, spicy, towards medium length, still slight alcohol sharpness

But too expensive compared to various similar bulkheads
