The wood is starting to show itself in this one but I think it was bottled around the right time and the way the flavours combine together is really good that said it cannot get a really high score as there is something slightly lacking like a standout flavour, perhaps this is too well balanced, polished if you like.
It lacks an edge but lovely stuff for sure,

At first I thought the nose was on the light side but if you work at it there is a lovely old school, slightly perfumy, woody, teak oily aspect to this. Notes of dark orange marmalade emerge with moist orange cake with stewed fruit and various liqueurs.
    • Taste

This has some spice and pepper that mixes with cream and cake. What is striking with this one is the balance, it really is spot on and the only negative at the moment is that is gets slightly drying on the tongue. Notes of mallow emerge but if you hold it in your mouth there is a fresh kick of spice and fizzy sherry but a lovely lighter sherry with a hint of caramel and some ice cream wafer

The finish is really good it dances on your tongue but the dryness curtails it a little

N: Wax notes, pears, cognac, wild honey, hay, physalis, cinnamon cereals in milk, orange marmalade, slightly burnt wood notes, raspberries, then again ripe yellow fruits, wheat, grasses, blackberries and caramel in recurring pleasant yet striking wood notes. Wild and noble.
P: wood sweets, earthiness, wet leash, apricots, cooked dark fruits on fior di latte ice cream and pepper; for real?
F: Medium length, yellowish fruit, dry-sweet

    Tasting Notes by Dave Broom
Nose: Mature, elegant and complex. Rancio, mulch, toasty wood, hazelnut, mango, black cherry, clootie dumpling, light smoke.

    Palate:
Fragrant but pretty firm. Needs water to soften the oak and reveal
peach, chestnut honey, dried fruit and a hint of smoke. Balanced.

Finish: Cocoa, beech nut. Cognac like.

Comment: A classic from one of Speyside's forgotten greats.

  10. Mr.Sandwich did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Producer's Tasting Notes Nose: Fragrant. Cedary. Honeyed.
Wonderfully rich, fruity strawberry jam nose with mellow pear drops.
Some warm, even caramelised sugar. With water less pronounced but still
    sweet.

    Body: Soft, rich, tongue-coating.

Palate: Clean, sweet. Smooth, not cloying. A hint of Seville orange. Intense honey.
Cereal-grain. Drinks very well straight and needs very little water, which introduces a slight saltiness.

Finish: Gently drying. Shortbread. Deep and mellow, with faded lemon-sherbets
