A great whisky. Chapeau to Marco!
    • Nose
      93 93
Aromatic to grainy smoke, nice and greasy, slightly medicinal, some meadow herbs, wet wood, coastal air, cold coffee
    • Taste
      91 91
Creamy, smoky, spicy, some chocolate, vanilla, very warming, hardly any dryness, the chocolate turns into a creamy milk chocolate
    • Finish
      91 91
      Warming, smoky, creamy, perfectly balanced

As usual, Marco gives little tips about the distilleries of his Undisclosed bottlings. Here we have South Islay and a little Kildalton Cross.

If it really comes down to a 19 year old Refill Sherry Ardbeg in cask strength, I'll be curious.

getting on the hype train.. sweet, spicy, very oily - even viscous… the peat is heavy, almost Ledaig-ian.. blind, i would have chosen bunna.. i find it quite similar to the recent cooper’s choice ‘honeyed smoke’ edition (136078) or the BW’s rum matured Caol Ila (167477)... certainly not in the same league as the sherried ard’s i have tried so far.. but it has a nice depth in taste and a certain nobility (for lack of a better word)… who knows, the frog might turn out to be a prince, after all.. the prince of Islay..

very nice sweet & herbal mix in the aftertaste, but it lacks the finesse and the wow factor to make it into the higher echelons…

It has a relatively oily viscosity and its bouquet is of a relatively strong intensity. I have aromas of pleasantly sweet peat smoke, vanilla, herbs and toffee. Moderately complex. Relatively sweet in taste. The alcohol is well integrated and it has a relatively heavy body.

What might the Kildalton Cross allude to as jewelry? :-) A great whisky, for which you would have paid quite a bit more than the original bottling at this age.
    • Nose
      90 90
Campfire smoke with marshmallows, fried potato spices, salt and sea air, candle wax, blazing charcoal, BBQ, dry tobacco, toffee, candle wick, salty caramel, sweet notes with a maritime touch.
    • Taste
      90 90
Full-bodied, sweet, strong on the tongue, smoky, oily and not decrepit - vanilla, again charcoal, sweet fruits, soot, meat, umami, magic dust, maritime, seaweed.
    • Finish
      89 89
In the finish, the above-mentioned tastes slowly fade away, overall of medium length with somewhat dry fruit notes and a slight woody influence.

A little Kildalton cross and a big frog on leaves?

Nice compromise between smoke, sweetness, sherry, oak and pepper.
I do believe that the kildalton cross should indicate a certain origin. For the age, the smoke is still very present.
