first of all i must confess being a sucker for peated port stuff and also have a rather positive opinion on glen scotia. therefore it is an easy start for this single cask expression here.

the nose starts with a high complexity and an intermezzo between tart sweetness and medicinal peat. in the taste and, especially, in the finish the young age comes out of hiding and makes the experience a bit less exciting than expected from nosing. still a decent dram.

it has to be noted, that this review is based on the neck pour . i can imagine that after a month or two the malt may be less harsh on the finish line.

although the colour would not suggest it that much (missing the pinkish heu), the nose delivers clearly port notes with creamy blueberries, almost like cake frosting. very sweet on the nose with the medicinal peat laying in the back. the high abv is a bit stingy on the nose but gets lighter with time. the tary peat notes keep a nice balance between itself and the almost cotton candy sweetness. now also some herbs come through, which is the only thing which shows some glen scotia character here. rather complex for the age. nice. is that root vegetable?
    • Taste
      88 88
strong start, very oily mouthfeel. here the port shows its stronger side with a lot of blueberries, cherries and rasperries. after an initial fruit punch you get the herby peat sidekick. fresh ginger. not as complex as the nose but still very good.
    • Finish
      86 86
unfortunately the finish is a bit harsh and unround. a few more years would make it a really good malt. this is still decent, but the finish does not keep what the nose suggests.

with some water and time in the glass it becomes better.

I'm not sure what to make of the whisky yet. The main "aroma" is: gauze bandages with antiseptic in apple juice. In any case, he has character. However, the alcohol is not well integrated.
