  1. Malthead19 scored this whisky 70 points Connoisseur

    COLOR: Gold (without dye)

    - intended as a beginner's malt (although I find it rather too rough for that, especially the strong, sharp finish is not suitable for beginners
    - with approx. 30€ the entry into the Glenrothes Range, but
Personally, I'd rather spend a few bucks more for
the MANSE Reserve or 10 years of the Soleo Collection
    • Nose
subtle fruit in the background, oak, coconut, plum
    • Taste
despite 43% rather weak attack, oak, spice, rather little fruit, slightly sweet
    • Finish
      very short finish with a slight bitterness ;
medium-long, dry and still quite sharp aftertaste, spiciness, the bitter note lingers in the mouth

Caramel, oak, spice, with fruit. Very balanced. In the mouth then sweet, but slightly alcoholic, spicy and toffee. In the finish then a bit harsh and unfortunately pretty fast away. Yet again a solid Speysider.

After about 10 minutes the whisky opens up. At first it's a very pleasant, well-balanced whisky. The maturation seems a bit too short to hold, though. The balance starts to break down about 30 minutes into it. With enough time, the nose shows more solvent notes and a bit
more smoke, and the taste shows more powerful floral and grain notes and less
    sherry influence.
    • Nose
Candied ginger and grainy malt spirit, green oak tannins and
barrel char, grassy vanilla and cocoa, pineapple and fuji apples, honeycomb and
      almond oil.
    • Taste
Oak tannins, floral honey, malt and dark chocolate, picked ginger, dry sherry tannins.
    • Finish
Floral citrus, touch of dried fruits and wax, fades to a
      gentle warming baking spice.

  10. Allandale scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Ripe fruit, soft malty tones, hints of herbs, spicy.
    • Taste
      Some blackberries,sultanas,dried fruit,citrus and vanilla.
    • Finish
Middle long, a nice soft complex aftertaste .

  11. wisekyofcourse scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

On the nose, excessive vanilla, yellow fruit and malt On the palate, alcohol, vanilla, some spices, then almond liqueur In the final, quite short on the same feelings
for those who love a vanilla DRAM, simply enjoy it as a dessert!

  12. Xstream scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

As others also mention. Especially butterscotch. Weather's original candies, but then liquid. Little complex but soft and tasty with a piece of chocolate. Only in the finish you notice that it is still young. But for this price a more than fine whisky. In the style of Glenrothes today. More fudgy and less fruit and complexity. Meanwhile, just very tasty with some choco or nuts.

Select Reserve has been replaced by Vintage Reserve - really no loss
    • Nose
      Vanilla, little toffee and pears
    • Taste
      Butterscotch, butterscotch, butterscotch, little other
    • Finish
      Medium short

  16. J.K.Ch scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

This whisky, in my opinion, tastes just as it smells. When I was getting a sniff, I was expecting this in my taste and it was coming. She was one of my first. And I liked it very much at the time, and I did not buy it again today. But the bottle and the packaging are wonderful.
    • Nose
Plum both fresh and ripened as well as dried, spices most pronounced about clove, woodiness. Slightly artificial perfume. And a hint of Manga.
    • Taste
Dried plum, sweet, woody. In the background a bit of some chic perhaps paint or glue. Hint of caramel.
    • Finish
A fairly slowly disappearing plum is replaced with spices and possibly unnecessarily large amounts of wood. Alcohol is sharper than necessary. And not just in reverberation, but in taste even though not so much in it. Sometimes the aroma of the cellar rises.

This is fully on the butter scotch line. I actually prefer the pre-butter scotch era when Glenrothes was more fruity with lots of oranges.

Whisky does not surprise you. The nose, taste and aftertaste are without peculiarities. Does not make it a bad dram for me, but somewhat predictable.
    • Nose
Very sweet, cherries, prunes and some caramel, a bit of vanilla.
    • Taste
Sweet, soft, dry fruit, slightly more bitters in the back.
    • Finish
Dry fruit can be supplanted by something spicy.

  24. J.K.Ch scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

This whisky taste exactly as I expect from smell.
    • Nose
Plums, fresh and also dried and spicy (nutmeg and cloves)
    • Taste
      Wood, dried and sweet plums,
    • Finish
Long ... Plums slightly disappearing and being replaced by spices.

  25. Malt Hans scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Malty and spicy aroma, cinnamon cloves, burnt oak, honey, ripe banana, vanilla, fudge and dry hay. Vanilla sweet taste, wood smoke, cardamom, roasted chestnuts, cashew nuts and malt. Medium long and malty end.

  28. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Not bad at all. Much sweeter on the nose than on the palate. The fruits on the palate were not recognized on the nose which made it quite interesting. Only one dram note though.

    (Rating interval 79-84)
    • Nose
Vanilla fudge, creme brûlée and caramel, burnt sugar, raspberry candy and marshmallows.
    • Taste
Fruity with pears, sour Granny Smith apples and vanilla. With water it becomes more spicy and oaky with some more sweetness.
    • Finish
The finish is short and somewhat dry, with apples, Kiwi, sour notes and sweets are fighting about the spots on the tongue.

The combination of the different flavors gives the Select Reserve a certain note that does not necessarily appeal to everyone. However, I find this note very interesting and it brings a certain variety.
    • Nose
First, malt and vanilla, caramelized citrus notes, lemon pastry, some heather, wild grasses and hay
    • Taste
sweet, soft, mild, vanilla with a fruity blend of apple and pear, some wild herbs, slightly bitter-nutty
    • Finish
slightly warming, light sweetness that turns into a little dryness, finally gets a bitter almond note

  31. Gearmailteach scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

    A solid malt.
    • Nose
Vanilla fudge, lots of caramel and vanilla. Malt and some bright summer fruits. Some foliage in the background. Light in the nose, not too complex. Cooling.
    • Taste
Oolig sweet with vanilla and orange. Then malty and spicy with a hint of pepper.
    • Finish
Mitellang, some dark chocolate and wood.

  32. Eclectic Scotchist scored this whisky 69 points Expert Senior

Body: Light-bodied and bordering on being watery.

I was very impressed with the nose on this one, but the taste and finish did not live up to what the nose promised for me. The taste and finish are simply too thin (perhaps showing signs of immaturity) and rough. Personally, I would rather get the Glengoyne 10 if I wanted a whisky in a similar style and price range.
    • Nose
      Dried
fruits, green apples, fresh leather, milk chocolate, sweet and light
toffee-like malt, some hay or grass, mellow oak, homemade vanilla
custard, caramel sauce, a faint saltiness and lemon zest.
    • Taste
      Follows
the nose closely: vanilla custard, mellow oak, changes between being
creamy and watery, somewhat spirity, toffee and some undefined
fruitiness in the background together with some grassy notes.
    • Finish
      Short
      - Mellow oak and mild spices, sweet and light malt, some unburnt peat
(earthiness), some faint lemon zest and vanilla custard. A bit too much spirit towards the
      end.

  34. granella2003 scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Lots of zesty rich fruit on the nose. Thick Seville marmalade,
bubbling on a hot stove with notes of toasted cereals
    • Taste
      The palate is silken
smooth and utterly supple. Gentle barley whispers sweet nothings to the/its
honey. A little vanilla and malt with toasted cereal and sumptuous oak.
    • Finish
Medium long with mocchaccino and barley sweetness.

  35. Willie JJ scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

    Very pleasant drinking.
    • Nose
Really fruity. Orange, banana and mango with a big hit of malt and honey.
    • Taste
Huge spice with lots of citrus, the wood presence is surprisingly strong.
    • Finish
Long, lingering and spicy with vanilla coming through.

A promising nose, but a bit `youthful` on the palate and with a short finish. Not a patch on the vintage Glenrothes releases.

    • Finish

  40. drkrylov scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

    Simple.
    • Nose
Spice, spirit and citrus. Fruitiness too, with a combination of pale sultanas and sharp woodland berries.
    • Taste
Slightly spirity, spicy and with mixed peel character.
    • Finish
      Biscuity.

  42. hsmithjr did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Good, but has the taste of youth.  For a few bucks more, go for a vintage expression.
    • Nose
Spices and oak.  Soft vanilla.  Citrus peels.  Raisins.  Candies pecans.
    • Taste
Again, spicy.  New make spirit.  Berries, then more citrus peels. Chocolate milk.  Cake batter.  Figs.
    • Finish
      Somewhat dry and doughy.  Almonds.

  43. mmaclean scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

This is a version that I always have beginners try to see if they like a speyside. It has sherry, spice, citrus and some sweet and nice finish. Not to pricey and not to hard to get used too. The variety is consistent in Glenrothes and they will get a chance to taste what to expect from this varietal.

  44. Bachess scored this whisky 80 points Administrator

    A good daily dram.
    • Nose
Some citrics, vanilla and some wood smoke.
    • Taste
Watery with nuts and vanilla again. A lot of citric fruits and a taste of tea.
    • Finish
      Short and not interesting.
