Ardmore 2010 - 2021, 10 years, 60.3% alc. Bottler: Wilson & Morgan (Barrel Selection Cask Strength) Aging: Post-maturation in an ex-Islay cask, cask number 803507

Nose: Dirty smoke, smell of metal and old brick, reminiscent of an old industrial building or a roundhouse. The smell is really intense and overpowering, it takes a little time to get deeper. Then I find delicate apple aromas, some grapefruit and sweet vanilla. A pleasant sweetness persists, but the smoke takes over from time to time, ash flies through the air.

Palate: Intense, starts fruity and sweet, quickly becomes drier and gets a decent spice component. Ripe apricots, pear and cold/sweet peat smoke, some canned tangerines. Add salted oatmeal, some iodine and mussels. Then caramel and sugar syrup, the spices begin to unfold. Black pepper meets a pinch of ginger powder and chili.

Finish: Very long, warming and smoky. A pleasant sharpness lingers longer, the smoke cools down and coats the tongue.

Conclusion: A smoky Ardmore that can easily keep up with many Islay malts, intense and strong stuff. The interplay between nose and palate, between the coal oven and a light maritime touch is superb.

Lemony, floral malt with salty palate, slightly peated, the maritime note is lil off the balance (too strong). Young and worth a try!
