- great drink, oak notes, sweet wine, grape, gummy bears, very nice macduff pleasant surprise
- Well that was a pleasant surprise. A nice journey to be sent on.
Notes from a blind tasting.
OK, I would have bet on Lomond / Inchmurrin here, so Macduff can do the same with the enormous change in the mouth. Delicious!
Lots of light and citrus fruits and some grass right after pouring. Very intense and inviting! After standing for a while, it appears much sweeter and fuller, not so fresh. Movement brings back the citrus touch. A sweet cake note completes the whole thing.
The start is rather mild, but on the aroma side things are really going on here. It starts out with lots of herbs and then becomes more and more juicy and sweeter towards the end. The mouthfeel is dense, diluted fruit pudding with honey. In the second sip, the sweetness has a little harder time against the now much stronger herbal note, but it does prevail in the end.
The finish is a rather slow fading. Only leaves pleasant memories. A bread-like sweetness will lie on the tongue for a long time to come.
- Great beautiful Macduff!
The wine barrel has done a great job without, however, completely pushing the distillery character into the background.
For me very balanced and harmonious, water can be tolerated very well. In addition to many dark fruits, papaya and a hint of mango come to the fore in terms of taste. For the price an absolutely great experience, clear purchase recommendation!

Nose: very nice fruity aromas with pineapple, papaya and net melon. Shortbread and a honey sweetness round off the appetizing appeal. Overall very sweet and fruity.
With a little water even sweeter and fruity.
Palate: quite mild and pleasant. The wine barrel emphasizes the alcoholic freshness a little. Again the beautiful fruits, fresh grapes, net melon, cedar wood and some black pepper. With a little water a bit rounder, softer and sweeter, but less definable fruit.
Finish: In the finish, the barrel comes into its own. Woody notes meet the tannins of the wine. Overall more spice than fruit.
At the end, a note of unripe fruit remains on the tongue. With water much less intensity, but more sweetness.
Conclusion: A great, summery whisky with a lot of fruit, alternating with spicy wood. It's really fun and eager for more. Especially in the nose a wonderful whisky.
