Overall good (especially taste and finish), but still seemed relatively simple and straightforward.
    • Nose
Burnt wiring, smoldering raw foliage, smoked meat, ripe peaches, light cheese tones.
    • Taste
Honeycomb, oak, hot spices, black chokeberry, mountain ash, light smoked meats.
    • Finish
Spices, tobacco, a little smoked meats, black chokeberry.

At first I wasn't too thrilled about this. I found it a bit monotonous. Now the bottle has oxidized for about 4 months and it is a completely different story. A nice interplay between the dirty cowshed Ledaig profile that is partly pushed back by the sherry cask.

So you see, it's a truth over and over again: spend time on whisky and give it a chance to unfold, both in the glass and in the bottle.

When it comes to smoky whiskys, Ledaig is way up there. This is an island whisky with maritime notes, strong smoke and clear funk, which not only goes well with greasy rubber boots, but also with elegant tweed. The strong golden color gives hope for a good influence of the Amontillado cask. Well then, rubber boots off, tweed jacket on and whisky in the glass to toast with a few old friends. Michel Reick in a tweed jacket? Doesn't matter …

    • Nose
In the nose, the whisky comes with strong smoke and then two aromas combine to form an interesting combination: There is the typical Ledaig funk with cowshed, hay and straw, but there is also the damp wine cellar with strong wines fermenting with yeast, the have a slightly fruity acidity. During the tasting, the winemaker wears a perfume that emphasizes vanilla... Of course she shouldn't do that, but it gives the whole thing a special charm. With a little water, a scent of smoky wine gums unfolds, which the British wine gum manufacturer Bassetts would like to recommend immediately as a new variant.
    • Taste
Also in the taste of wine gums with strawberries, cherries and bananas - but all in the smoked version. The basis of this whisky is sweet, it is only 10 years old, so it still has a clearly malty sweetness, plus the barrel with the sherry aromas, which are fruity and bring a tart, nutty note. This softens the sweetness without destroying the sugary-oily character in the mouth. Everything is held together by the smoke. It gives the depth, it provides the interesting, maritime aromas and the almost subtle funk, which is the icing on the cake of this successful whisky.
    • Finish
This is a smoky Ledaig - the aftertaste is strong with smoke, what else. But there is also oak on the palate, maritime kelp notes and the basic sweetness rounds it off.

A successful Ledaig, which actually only gives a glimpse of the rubber boots and, with its sweet-smoky structure, is a beautiful dessert whisky for highlanders on the west coast. Here the peat crackles in the chimney and the wind blows the spray over the cliffs. And the Old Friends gather in tweed tartan in front of the fireplace for a small dram in the evening. Michel Reick made a nice whisky there!

The aroma includes burnt peach pits, undergrowth and smoked meat with spices. The peppery flavor is dominated by burnt honeycomb, black pepper and red berries. The finish is sweet, spicy, smoked and dried fruit.

Cool Ledchik, the barrel gives the spicy nuances of peppery red berries with the absolute dominance of the distillery profile, very good.

    RATING: 88pts - | 87 - 89 (B +) → Great | - Always nice to have a bottle of this.

A beautiful 10-year-old bottling, the lack of complexity of which was neither cached with an excessively high alcohol content nor with an excessively strong barrel influence.

    * Re-Tasting 2021/01/09: Today I increase the taste to 88 points, so fruity-smoky-intense, it makes your mouth water!

Warm campfire, smoked bacon, yellow fruits, roasted almonds, pineapple juice, caramel. The alcohol is well integrated.
    • Taste
      88 88
Rough, spicy and smoky. Sea air, charcoal, mineral notes, oak, restrained, juicy stone fruit. The smoke tends to get stronger over time.

The mouthfeel is oily and voluminous, the 56.1% feel just right.
    • Finish
      87 87
Again more yellow fruits, various spices, some chocolate and again noticeable smoke.

The notes speak for themselves. No complexity bomb (I definitely don't need it here), just really delicious and excellently selected whisky from Michel.

    Blast!

Hammer! The beautiful greasy and already slightly sweet Ledaig smoke combined with a powerful, voluminous sweetness. Accompanied by a really nice light fruit note that wanders into the tropical. Some mango, some banana, some vanilla, some sugar. I don't want to say much more about it, that's just really awesome stuff. Period.

In my opinion, this is on the same page as nice PCs and Ardbegs. Simply super delicious!

Here the maritime character comes to the fore. Greasy peat smoke, seaweed, cold ashes from the campfire and some salty, stormy notes. Unfortunately, the sweetness takes a back seat, we're really talking about a wild, impetuous island whisky. The second sip is a little more tender and sweeter, but the generic maritime dominates here.

Very good. Wonderfully warming and voluminous, the smoke shows up again in combination with the wonderful, even sugary sweetness. Ties back to my nose here and I just really like it again. That's the way it has to be!

very cute; some smoke; slight sharpness; Brown sugar; a touch of grain

The sweetness remains; getting drier, long
