  1. Archer scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

I absolutely would not have guessed a German whisky blindly. The raw spirit is so adaptable that the port wine barrel from Springbank can do a great job and really give the whisky a good portion of Campbeltown feeling.
    • Nose
      88 88
The port wine barrel comes through pretty well right from the start: raisins, dried figs and apricots, lightly fermented grapes, leather, pipe tobacco. The lightly fermented grapes provide just the right amount of "dirt" that is needed to make the nose nice and exciting.
    • Taste
      86 86
Strong start with sweet forest berries, blackberries and grapes. Leather and pipe tobacco, malt, some menthol. Moist forest floor, slightly musty wood, the sweet berries last a long time.
    • Finish
      85 85
The menthol note becomes more intense in the finish, still the berries, cold espresso, nut chocolate.

Just from memory from a tasting with a friend:

A lot of barrels and that's a good thing here. There is no real distillate to be seen, and if it were, it would probably be "too German": German meaning very clean. Even so clean that a distillate has no character of its own. Nose 87 and that is mainly due to the barrel influence.
Quite young on the palate and still somewhat alcoholic. Nevertheless cleaned, therefore honest 85 points.
The finish is short and somewhat alcoholic. 83

    • Nose
      85 85
Sweetness, ham, smoke, some dark fruits, strong, some cherries
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweetness, smoke, spice, slight sharpness, gooseberries
    • Finish
      84 84
Oak, becoming drier, tart spicy, quite long

  6. ffmdino did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

here the barrel and with it the Springbank clearly left its mark
    a malt for Springbank fans
for me it had too few leather notes too bad
    • Nose
Ham is decreasing, leather is decreasing, earthy, slightly dirty, mineral / metal, slightly pepper, slightly oak, sweetness comes, sweet fruit
with water: sweeter, banana, slightly gum, vanilla

from 1920s: dirty, ham, very earthy, typical spring banknotes, light leather
with water: crispbread + cheese, ham, leather
    • Taste
      full and vigorous
spicy, dirty and nutty, ham, fresh earth, dark malt, chocolate so 65%, minimal smoke

with water: softer, red berries, a chemical note, cucumber water?
    • Finish
      long, sticks to the palate
very spicy, minimal oak, smoky, dirty

with water: rather thin, very earthy, a chemical note, a fruit compote

astringent on the tongue and gums
