    Aberlour A'bunadh batch #70 61.2%

Aroma: powerful, at first light sulphurous tones slip through, wet matches, blackcurrant leaf, sour berry jam, varnish, wood, both dry - boards, and in the form of old furniture. Over time, dark raisins, a little vanilla and pastry.

Taste: bright, attack of spices and spices, red pepper, orange peel, cinnamon, varnish, wood, dark raisins, prunes, sweet chili sauce.

Finish: long, grape and plum skin, wood, a pinch of spices, orange peel, caramel, pleasant tannins.

    Score: 87

Bottom line: a great powerful whisky, all solid, but without the variety that I would like. In any case, justifies its price, one of the best in its category.

My First A'Bunadh and I can see why it's so consistently highly rated. If this one is only an average batch, I wouldn't mind trying one of the "good" ones!
    • Nose
      86 86
Nose is complex, caramel, candied citrus, Christmas cake, quite a lot of sherry aromas.
    • Taste
      89 89
Heavy and smooth, powerful alcohol buzz, mountains of caramel syrup gives way to oatcakes, dark chocolate or roast coffee, and tobacco
    • Finish
      88 88
Finish is cut grass, thyme, ever so slight medicinal flavours. All the while that cask strength sets off like firecrackers.

This bottle is matured in oloroso butts.
So I expected chocolate notes like Glendronach 18 YO and Glen Garioch 15 YO. But this bottle is more like citrus.

    Lemon and lime peel.
Bitter, sweet and light note, most of all it's too SPICY.
When I drink most of other bottles, every sip makes me to get adapt to spice flavor, except this bottle.

Evaluated in a blind tasting of 8 ex-sherry samples. For me, she finished as the second worst, otherwise she was the last, eighth (69 judges). I didn't guess what it could be. I didn't rate Batch 57 the best (81 points) and this Batch is in my opinion a little worse.

The aroma is sour (kombucha?) And citrus peel. With water candies and spices. The taste is thick, slightly artificial, with strong alcohol and strange bitterness. Candy, orange and yellow fruit are added with water.

My first A’bunadh so cannot compare to previous ones
Like the sherry sweetness, oiliness and now got used to ABV
Bought it online however found a very good offer at local retail store and find it very good value for money so will purchase some more

Vanilla, dry fruit and honey like
    • Taste
      87 87
      Smooth sweet oily
    • Finish

Nice with a little spike at the end should be due to ABV rate?
