For the price you can not expect much and that comes over so well. A dominant orange note. I like the echoes of Christmas punch in combination with the sweetness.
The dryness in the finish but then costs points.
Nevertheless, he offers for the price of a good Brennereininblick or insight into the Speyside.
    • Nose
      79 79
Little. Some leather, tobacco, some lemon and a spicy orange. What surprised is an alcoholic stinging.
The orange dominates after some time massive and shows with some cinnamon Christmas flavors. After some time, the alcoholic stinging goes back, which brings him just to the 80 points.
    • Taste
      81 81
Nice sweet, but strongly reminds of Christmas punch. A light tingle on the tongue. That's it. I like the sweetness, but it is not complex. A little green apple can be recognized in the background and reminds me of the apple rings of Trolli.
    • Finish
      74 74
The sweetness is still there, but not so strong anymore. Short to medium length finish. The orange continues to dominate, but now comes a dryness, as well as some lemon.

    - a good solid 10y. old beginner paints with the man
    can't go wrong
    - almost everyone likes it, no big corners and edges
    - for less than 30€ you can access it
. you don't do anything wrong or rather spend a few € more and buy the 12 J. Double Cask ;-)

would describe this malt as a good entry-level whisky. Round and soft
    • Nose
malty, fruity with strawberries, vanilla, orange, very slightly spicy, very soft
    • Taste
spicy malty sweet with citrus fruits, light sherry notes, slightly nutty in the background, slightly bitter towards the end.
    • Finish
briefly some fruit, malt and nuts, then becoming bitter. Soft and short

  12. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Tasted this one blindly and I must admit I’m surprised by the outcome. I guessed this one at 46%-50% ABV and a little older.
    • Nose
I get a lot of refill notes, soft spices, oak, apple peel, chalk candy, anise and licorice. Pleasant nose
    • Taste
Oily texture, smooth and good balance. Orange fruits, nutmeg, ouzo and mediterranean spices. Pleasant and accessible but also tasteful and decently bodied.
    • Finish
medium length, younger hints of barley. Again tropical fruits and also that ouzo like anise background. Pleasant sipper that earns more appreciation if you ask me.

The floral grain and alcohol on the nose are thankfully quickly
overcome by the sherry arrival. Also a pleasant taste of vague honey-sweet
and green spice lingers for quite some time after you have finished a
drink. It may not be the most remarkable of whiskies, but it shows surprising complexity and definite quality for 10 years.
    • Nose
A touch of floral grain and alcohol, sherry and red fruits with
a touch of barrel char, honeyed malt and orange peel, vanilla, baked apples
with a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar, fades quickly to sharper baking spices
      and oak.
    • Taste
      Malt
and oak, a nip of alcohol and honey (Barenjager), sherry and citrus, red apples
and green pears, brown sugar and baking spices.
    • Finish
A touch of almond and caramel custard, dark coffee and a
bit of dark chocolate, a touch of anise seed, green tea and floral tannins.

The entry-level Aberlour. A nice little pleasing drink for the late afternoon.
    • Nose
Clear and pure. Sweet malt, an idea raisins, a hint of wax (but really just a hint). Water gives rise to notes of milk chocolate with a slight hint of a hint of cream.
    • Taste
Light, clear, carefree mouthfeel. Some wood, a few fruits. With water much rounder. the wood notes are noticeable, everything is sweeter. At the end, the slight sharpness becomes a little clearer.
    • Finish
Long standing finish, slightly sweet wood notes. With water noticeably shorter.

    Colour: a light bronze
Nose: it's a gentle whisky with red apples, heather and vanilla noticeable. Then the slight sherry influence comes through with cranberries and raisins. With water spices such as pepper and cinnamon appear also a hint of mustard seeds.
Taste: restrained with honey and vanilla the core flavours. The sherry tint again is there but far from forceful with water more toffee but nothing dramtically changes. A gentle finish with a floral flourish.

Good for the 10 years, I like him very much in general. However, the first impression of the nose can hope for more than it really comes.
    • Nose
Slight sherry notes with fruit, some vanilla. Honey and light pear complete the whole thing and promise a lot ...
    • Taste
Again, light sherry, which spreads sweet initially. Then malt and pepper follow mediocre, becomes relatively hot alcoholic.

Drying with a light sherry note

A simple knitted single malt. The spiciness runs like a thread and is a bit too dominant for my taste - 17.09.2016
    • Nose

    • Taste

A decent entry level OB. Youngish fruity sherry-influence with some rowan-candy, ripe plums and cherries. Maybe a little watery and alcoholic, yet no inbalancies or off-notes. Considering the current problems of sherry-driven distilleries I think Aberlour shows consistently that even nowadays it is possible to keep the quality high and the prices fair.

Initial nose some recognizable hints of an Aberlour A'bunadh (the sherry nose) but that is where the comparison stops and it disappears when you leave it in glass a little long to take on some air.

In itself a good whisky for the value but find it somewhat too flat.

80 points. A very decent, value for money whisky. I love the sherry notes and the fact that it's not too sweet (in my opinion). I would rate it higher if it was bottled ad 43%, but that's just not what you can expect from a low-priced whisky.

I would definitely buy myself another bottle.

    Bang for the buck!
    • Nose
A punch of flowers and citrus fruits complemented with hints of vanilla and toffee.
    • Taste
A little wood notes, sherry, vanilla, chocolate, toffee and citrus fruits.
    • Finish
Quite short, leaves a spicy aftertaste with some reminiscence of sweet sherry and vanilla mixed with chocolate.

Very nice and easy sherried whisky at a great price.

But found out that after keeping it +- 1 year open it's not so good anymore. Most flavors are gone.Which is quite normal @ 40%. Just so you know ;)

    • Nose
Ripe tropical fruit, roasted coffee beans, sherry, raisins and toasted bread.
    • Taste
Very light and creamy with fruit, coffee and sherry. Becomes slightly sour in the middle, but only slightly.
    • Finish
Short, with delicate acidity, some wood and slight bitterness at the very end.

    Aroma: vanilla, sherry, strong, cherry, wine cellar, almonds or marzipan, nutty, Persiko, a little like apple brandy, fruity, banana, chewing gum, turpentine, raspberries, glycerin, grated apple, new wine, fruit sweets, strawberries;

    Taste: Sherry, Nutty ?, sweet, light oak notes, cherry sweets, raspberries, chocolate, raspberry gums, light, the well-known strawberries from the tin;

    Departure: with oak and spice, medium-long, sweet and apple-like, güel taste;
Conclusion: a great 10-year-old! Super entry into the woodfinishes! Great for the price! Very versatile (complex) for a 10 year old malt.

not really my cup of tea,
    • Nose
sweet perfumed wood, inside of an old jewellery box.
    • Taste
      mild spices, some cinnamon? metallic?
    • Finish
short/medium, metallic, with something unpleasant hanging round the back of my palate

Not really my cup of tea. It’s not bad, and I guess it is an adequate entry level whisky, but since I tasted an Aberlour that was not sherried I wonder why they sherry their stuff at all (except for the A’bunadh’s of course).

    • Nose
      Malty, spicy, mint toffee.
    • Taste
Distinctively clinging mouth feel, with long-lasting flavour development. Both sweetness and spicy, peppery dryness in its malt character. Nutmeg and berry fruit.
    • Finish
      Lingering, smooth, aromatic, clean.

A classic Speyside single malt, matured in a combination of oak ex-bourbon casks and ex-sherry butts for a minimum of 10 years.

The newest entry level @ 40%. Mine has a Belgian back label with laser etched LKRD249 code on it. This one is again better than the ones from five years ago.

    Good entry-level malt.
    • Nose
      floral, caramel, fruits secs.
    • Taste
Honey, fruit (apple, peach), hazelnut, caramel, vanilla.
    • Finish
Medium, warm with woody and spicy notes.

Loveable and accessible dram for starters

Fairly good in toto, adequately balanced, but the taste appeared somewhat rough to me. Water helps to mellow the acridity a little. Apparently it needs a couple extra years of maturation though.
    • Nose
Resinous, tropical plant, passion fruit, pumpkin, dried fruit, caoutchouc?, Jamaican rum, strawberry candy. The flavours sweeten further. Cherry jam and port notes come up afterwards.
    • Taste
Harsh and nippy at the beginning. Bitter wood notes, resin, cherry stone, lots of tannin, vinegar, salt water, wormwood?, nutmeg, brandy, caramel, butterscotch. Oily texture. Passable balance.
    • Finish
Medium long. Bleak at first, the mouthfeel warms up rapidly influenced by spicy overtones. I discern some citrus, zest, wood charcoal, cloves, paprika, cinnamon and dark slab chocolate.

F: medium with honey and spicy
    one of my favorite benchmarks

    • Nose
Fresh fruits (apples, pears, melons).  Nutty....like almonds.  Hints of sherry.
    • Taste
Mixed fruit preserves.  More red apples, then some dates and figs.   Thicker texture than I expected.  Pound cake.
    • Finish
Short.  Too short.  They had me up to this point, still, a nice 10 yo.  Holiday spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, clove).

The nose is deep in fruit, taste is jammy like orange marmalade, body is amazing for a 10 year. Finish could be longer, however this has a great finish all things considering. Price is fair and just comes in a round cylinder.

This is a wonderful edition to the Aberlour line of great single malts. I love the fruit in the nose and the wood notes in the body. It has great finish for just being a 10 year old. This one is not hard to find so look it up and add it to your collection.
