N: Sweet onion [relish], winkles, heap loads of oil: olive and 2-stroke.
    T: Onion-sweet-vibrant greasy gritty > salty, carbon, clay/earth, cake-y vanilla,….
F: So much flavour [thankyou abv], the finish resonates over salty oaky vanilla, and those allium-ey phenols.
C: Fabulously idiosyncratic. Another English cracker in as many months.

  2. Gaija scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Barbecue-smoked pork with honey glaze and Hoisin sauce, a very pleasant and not so common profile. Very aptly named I must say. Hard to tame the alcohol burst on the palate but aside from that, quite a great bottle. Thanks Phil !

  3. FernetBranco scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

With an increasing "barrel number", the bottlings unfortunately become tamer. Much to my regret, it is no longer the peat whips from .1 or .2 - nevertheless it is still a really very aromatic whisky with a great range of aromas. Still a nice alternative if you don't feel like the Islay standard sauce anymore.

  4. mandragoru did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    SMWS notes:

Sweet and meaty, like Frazzles and sweet chilli smoked pork scratchings and how about a marmalade made with Seville oranges smoked over ex-sherry cask wood used to mature peaty whisky. The taste was big, dark and beautiful – ‘an explosion of purple smoke!’ When we added water it was like adding fuel to the fire (in a good way!) - sweet and sour glazed smoked pork chops and on the palate smoked loin of pork with citrus, rum and raisin sauce while in the never-ending finish candied ginger, dark chocolate and heather honey. After 11 months in a new charred oak barrel, this whisky was transferred into a refill ex-bourbon barrel.
