Several times in the glass and there was always something new to discover. The big "S" on the label is definitely justified in my opinion.
    Thanks for the sample mark!

long, old school, with nuts, herbs, salty,
      then becomes drier, astringent, dusty

Quite chocolaty, very pleasant, drinkable, there is some leather but not the sulphury one - very good

    Springbank “Superman”

A private cask bottling which was distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2020 at 23 years old from a fresh sherry hogshead cask 108. It produced 160 bottles at 47.3% abv.

Nose: I can smell hints of it from about a foot away in the glass! Fizzy cola cubes, bubblegum, rhubarb and custard boiled sweets, strawberry laces, ginger cake. No sulfur at all. Chalk, a little camphor, the diesel note sneaks in at the end making it undeniably Springbank . Much more fresh and tropical fruity ness than I was expecting from a first fill cask. I really could nose this forever!

Mouth: big ripe stone fruits, orange zest, candied ginger, the dirty sooty farmyard quality is far more apparent here lots of springbank DNA wrapped up with a fresh sweetness from the cask.

The nose is simply fantastic, big, lovely and balanced, the mouth doesn’t disappoint and follows through with what the nose promised. Lovely long finish to it. I was worried this would be cask dominated by the colour but thank god it’s not. Loads of distillate here showcased nicely by the cask and complemented by it. I am very much on board with the bourbon is best crowd when it comes to showcasing the distillate, but gentle sherry maturation (usually refill) really does add something to Springbank and when they get it right it’s excellent. A lovely single cask!

The colour of amber with brownish reflections.

Smells very old school. Toasted sugar, candied orange peel, lime, passion fruit, green apple, star anise, mango, watermelon in traces. Extremely fruity tropical scent.

The taste is recognizably Springbank, slightly smoky, dark, with notes of sour cherrie jam, anise and cinnamon, as well as a couple of grassy notes in the background. The finish is very pleasant with notes of beef soup and sherry. Lovely Springbank.

    Super Dram

I was fortunate to try this private bottling a few weeks ago in a fabulous tasting with Michiel Wigman and Jeroen Koetsier. So once it became available to the public, I hurried to secure a bottle. Brace yourself, for it’s a belter as the logo – reminiscent of the son of Krypton – suggests. ‘Nuff said.

Dark and sweet nose on chocolate with praline filling, figs and dates in hessian cloth. Some pebbles. Wet earth. The typical chalk I often find in Springbank is there too. Lots of hazelnuts. Some Turkish Delight. Nicely old school and very yummie nose.

Oh, oh, oh!!! Dark fruit, gym sneakers, (good) rubber, peat, heather, pebbles in a stream, cold Turkish coffee, hazelnuts, the works! Did I mention old school and super? I gladly repeat it.

Very long and satisfying finish with lots of herbal and earthy notes that show the fruity notes who is king.

A Super Dram! Oh, look, this is the 50th Springbank I try. Nice. My autistic side likes this kind of nonsense.
