Whisky Reviews for Arran Sherry Cask

The still relatively young sherry malt is well integrated and, at the price, definitely a recommendation as a standard
    • Nose
      87 87
Vanilla and dry dark fruits are in the foreground.
The alcohol initially covers the nose.
    • Taste
      87 87
The pleasant aromatic sweetness is quickly reminiscent of ripe cherries and dry summer fruits. It is relatively pleasant to drink and contains no disturbing flavors.
    • Finish
      86 86
The finish is only medium to short and falls off quickly, which may be due to the short maturation.

  2. KB201 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

This arran is packed with flavor and lemony sweetness, delivering a smooth finish. A great whisky matured in first fill casks with an unbeatable value for money.

The Bodega' has been part of the core range of the Arran island distillery since autumn 2019. Only casks from sherry wine cellars in Jerez, Spain were selected for the single malt. The bodega was then bottled at natural cask strength.

Evaluated in a blind tasting of 8 ex-sherry samples. I put her in sixth place, just behind the fifth Tamdhu Batch Strength 005. Otherwise, she finished fifth overall (69 judges).

Weaker, indistinct in the scent. Orange peel and after adding water grape juice and pears. The taste is quite pleasant, with strong alcohol. Milk caramel and orange peel. After adding water, thick, fruity, bitter and sweet. Unripe apricot. In the finish drier, slightly woody and slightly bitter. Cocoa. After adding water astringent, citrus peel.

An unexpectedly bright malt for a category like NAS. The classic Arran profile is difficult to read, but occasionally looms in the taste.

    • Nose
Grain and malt tones (malt sugar), raisins, sherry, acetone, tobacco, dried grass, vanilla, prunes, spices, tannins, leather, a fruit plate opens with water.
    • Taste
Sweetness 7/10, black pepper, prunes, chocolate, ginger, vanilla, tobacco, artificial leather, a certain amount of dryness and a complete lack of alcoholism, signature fruits are revealed with water.
    • Finish
Dryness, oak, sourness of licorice, tart, as it oxidizes in air, more bitterness comes.

Arran rarely does something wrong, and this one is a pleasure to drink.

soft nuts and bit of chocolate, lots of red fruits, really clean with a nice dry finish

Yet another lovely dram from the Arran distillery. Young, not particularly complex; but has lovely sweet fruity notes.

  7. Whisky Hamster scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Yes, maybe it's a bit young, maybe a bit alcoholic, maybe the sherry could be even more integrated into the malt. But hey, not sulphur off notes, a fun glass for a fair price at cs. Like it better than the new 18, but others suggest I just happened to stumble upon a bad batch. ;-)
