  1. RJKrueger scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

A very intense, difficult and inharmonious whisky that is not on my wavelength. Here they tried to get as much as possible out of the barrel from the short maturing period and overshot the mark. The distillery can actually do that better. And the price is completely out of the question.
    • Nose
      83 83
Very alcoholic and closed on the nose; after some time and some water, some cherry and raspberry, burnt leather and dark fermented cigar tobacco come through.
    • Taste
      82 82
Biting on the palate, typical Oloroso sherry notes come out at the back, but also a lot of bitter liquorice, black tobacco notes.
    • Finish
      80 80
      Very bitter finish.

Too young, too peppery, too ginger... Overpriced.

  5. ffmdino did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    it is solidly made
    hard for me; here is too much sherry;
    no purchase candidate
    • Nose
Sherry class, oak old + polish, spicy, slightly sweet, slightly sulphur, tart, chocolate ~75-80%, slightly moss
with water: slightly waffle, rubbery, dirty, becomes nutty

from the 1920s: tingles, brew banana, some leather, mushy red berries, oak + ??, moist earth, tobacco, late bitter beer note
      with water: tart, gum
    • Taste
Oily, full, strong, the alcohol tingles a bit
decent sherry but in a heavy way, chocolate ~75%, more rubber, dirty

with water: gum, bitter liquorice, tobacco ?
    • Finish
      long
tart, sherry, chocolate ~80%, gum, espresso

with water: very tart/spicy, coffee on the palate

1770 Glasgow resumes the whisky tradition of the Scottish metropolis and launches interesting whiskys on the market. The downside: you're young. This was bottled exclusively for Kirsch Import and matured in 1st fill Oloroso casks. Can this work after only five years?

    • Nose
Ok, the aroma is intense and strong. But is that whisky or is that fortified sherry? The grades are by no means uninteresting or even ugly. It smells delicious and makes you want to take the first sip. But it's not so worthwhile to pick the aromas, because there's not much to pick. Full of sherry – but at least it's oloroso, that makes things nice and not cloyingly sweet.
    • Taste
At over 60% vol. Of course, the whisky would like a small sip of water, which tames it a little. The start is still strong. And then comes what is to be expected: strong Oloroso sherry with some dark fruit notes, fig and dates in a nut mixture. That's nice, that's tasty and nice to drink. But it's also a bit interchangeable and not independent. Strong sherry character without any major distillery character. There are spicy notes, a little cough syrup, which is delicious here. This is good to drink, the keg was fine. Due to the strong sherry influence, the typical, young aromas are well concealed. There is no unripe pear, there is nothing metallic.
    • Finish
Where is the finish supposed to come from? Some wood flashes, but above all a nice sherry note with nuts and a hint of marzipan remains on the palate.

It's a delicious whisky that you drink more of than you probably should... But it's still a young whisky, it's still a whisky that's too expensive. It's well made, has no off-flavors and I like it much better than the Rich & Smoky from the virgin Oak/PX bottling. But basically, strong cask aromas are hammered onto a whisky that is too young and not yet mature. Everyone expects heroic deeds from the young distilleries and is massively impressed when high-alcohol whiskys are beaten through many active casks in a few years. It creates flavors that may impress, but it doesn't make great whiskys. This distillery will only become really interesting in a few years. And yes: Age matters!

Alcohol integrated very well. Great intensity. Lots of chocolate notes. Clearly Oloroso influence. Looks older (around 12-15 years)

    Really exciting for the age!

Cherry and dark chocolate. A little wood with tobacco and a little spice.
    • Taste
      87 87
Dark chocolate with subtle grain notes. In addition cherry with pepper. Unfortunately, the alcohol remains fairly present.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium length. Dark chocolate remains. Paired with peppery flavor and maritime grain and honey.

Smell: Very fruity, especially dried fruits such as raisins, figs and plums, but the alcohol is also quite present, honey, toffee, milk chocolate and some furniture polish.
Taste: Here, too, the dried fruits dominate, very sweet and heavy start, pepper, roasted almonds, crème brûlée, cocoa.
Finish: Medium long, dry, dark chocolate and spicy oak.
Conclusion: The young people are very well hidden by the barrel used. Intense and very fruity whisky.

A really good one from the "boys" section.
Sherry notes and dried fruits to chocolate and spices.
That brings me a little in the Christmas mood :)

A bit of pressure, but amazing what this five year old whisky can do!
    • Nose
      85 85
First, intense alcohol and sweetness. After a while in the glass, the Oloroso Sherry clearly comes through with dried fruits and almond butter. Slightly sour and spicy, cocoa or cocoa butter
    • Taste
      88 88
Bittersweet Symphony! Good balance between sweet and bitter. Intense, creamy and warming. Orange peel, dark chocolate, dried fruits and cherries.
    • Finish
      87 87
Relatively long, warming and dry, further chocolate, nuts and dark cherries.

???????????? (if emoji can be shown, what you see on the left would be some chocolate bars)
    • Nose

Mars bar! Grapefruits, toffee and black tea. Black peppers and mint near the top. You've also got polished wood, dried cranberries and toast with brushed honey. At the end, there's some nice pomelo peel. More honey black tea after a sip.
    • Taste
      90 90
Perfect blend of sweetness and bitterness, hmm... this is some premium chocolate right here in my mouth. Later on, there're citrus zest, orange pith, chocolate powder which then develops into Milo.
    • Finish
      90 90
Few seconds of citrus zest. Dark chocolate joins right after, it also comes with the creamy texture. Caramel, tiny bit of cinnamon. The chocolate aftertaste is long lasting. When it's gone, I can taste some fruit tea.

  18. DGV scored this whisky 88 points Expert Junior

An excellent representative of quality young whisky.
    • Nose
Saturated. Canned peaches, cocoa, nuts, motor oil, a little minerality, and a light trail of burnt wiring.
    • Taste
Rounded, despite the high degree. Dried fruits, cherry jam, honey, light technical tones.
    • Finish
Long. Bitter chocolate, nuts, honey, cherries.

  19. whisky_garage scored this whisky 87 points Expert Junior

The aroma is intense, sweet. Creamy, dried fruits, sun-dried tomatoes.
We stood and breathed .... Spicy spices, pear, canned peach, tobacco, coniferous theme.
The taste is bright. Dried fruits, creaminess, spicy spices, infused compote, strongly brewed tea, soapy notes.
The finish is long. Herbiness, ginger, apricot pits, spices.
Conclusion: For a five year old sherry whisky, the reference sample. Bright enough, rich and comfortable, without the unnatural sherry, which is very often found in young sherry with barrel turns.
Repulses the price of 100 € for 0.5.

It is easy and pleasant to write about such a whisky. There is no need to invent anything, everything is in it. He is beautiful! A lovely barrel!
This is a great example of how a wonderful high quality whisky can cost € 100. Thus, to be 5, 10, 100 times lower at the cost of promoted or very rare and old releases of other distilleries.

    • Nose
Barberry, maltiness, cognac, chocolate, dustiness, raisins, prunes, dates, figs, vanilla, leather.
      With water: chocolate milk coffee
    • Taste
sweet (6/10 sweetness), bright, astringent and powerful taste, figs, cognac, prunes, chocolate, vanilla, light chili pepper pungency, pleasant and very appropriate bitterness.
With water, bitterness is added, but the taste is better balanced, it becomes sweeter and sherry.
    • Finish
      Dry sherry, enveloping tannins.
