Excellent whisky among the range of the Penderyn Gold Series. Rich Oak 46% is one of the newest bottlings to join the Gold Series. It used to be a small batch 50% bottling but the distillery decided to add it as a 46% bottling for its Gold Series.
Excellent value for a rich whisky full of flavours. You get chocolate, dried fruits, coconut and a hint of vanilla in this beautiful dram.
My first malt is from Wales. Pleasant aroma, light, wine barrel gives berry notes. But heavily hardened, the tree protrudes, which did not like. In general, a good molt, so to speak, there is potential))
A little closed and rather difficult. On the one hand strong oak and pithy spices, on the other hand vanilla, caramel, juicy red berries and roasted nuts. With water: fresher and much more lively. Mint, then lots of caramel, pithy spices and again hints of red berries.
Very creamy and full. At first it becomes very sweet and caramel, but later it becomes dry and spicy after pepper and allspice. In the background hints of cranberries. With water: juicier and more balanced. Oak, berry notes, chocolate, caramel, orange zest and pithy spices.
Really disappointing as a previous 50% expression under the late Jim Swann was probably one of my favourite whiskies ever. I've been told that Penderyn, like Kavalan have a new source for their wine casks which could be the reason for the change in taste.
Nose: floral, vanilla, laundry detergent Palate: icing sugar and a hint of spice, a bit watery. Finish: black pepper with a slight heat
I can admire the amount of flavour that was infused in a short time, yet it’s a shame that I can’t reality get beyond the overt wood flavours (vanilla, I’m looking at you).
Big on the vanilla (it’s a bomb), caramel and fudge, with hints of freshly cut grass, some drops of mango juice. Very modern and very much wood driven.
Fairly fruity. The mango certainly makes an encore, as does the fudge. There’s room for some cloves and nutmeg too. Also, there’s no escaping the vanilla, although the balance is better than it is on the nose.
Lingering vanilla custard. Short to medium.
