Whisky Reviews for Caol Ila 25-year-old

- I am happy to have received a sample from the Ila. My 6th CI and also the eldest so far. However, CI and I will not become best friends. For me Islay has better to offer. A matter of taste.
Immediately after pouring lemon, but this develops into a mix of bright fruits. The smoke well integrated.
Kind of watery in the mouth. The smoke just in the background.
And this is where the Ila Rauch comes to the fore. Not disturbing, but noticeable.
- A real top whisky! Pretty much everything is right here, even without strong wine barrels and the like. If you want to criticize anything here, it is the alcohol strength. With more alcohol, the malt would probably be insane.
The expected smoke remains barely noticeable at first. The flavors are too interwoven, too complex. There is a hint of anise, there is honeydew melon with smoked ham, tobacco and leather and a hint of menthol. Everything coordinated and harmonious with a slight sweetness. Very nice!
Oily and sweet on the tongue. The smoke is now stronger and resembles a campfire. In addition, old oak, bacon, some black pepper, tobacco. Here, too, everything is very mature and harmonious.
Sweet smoke, and honeydew melon with ham. Tobacco is also found in the long finish.
