    Tasting: April 2022
    • Nose
Floral, with heather, and a fantastic bonfire smoke. Red fruits, a little nutty and with ripe raisins.
    • Taste
Sweetness of heather, peat, sweet red fruits, mild smoke, saltiness and red berries. Very easy and balanced at 51%.
    • Finish
Well balanced, with bonfire smoke, peat, saltiness, sweetness of fruits and red berries.

Caramelised red oranges. Sweet but also powerful. Still available at Bowmore bar to taste, but no more bottles to buy.

  6. LeChiffre scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Typical intensely-sherry cask-grained Bowmore. Here more on the spicy-earthy-chocolaty side and less fruit. In addition, the typical quartz-mineral Bowmore smoke. Actually always works for me, also here.

A good whisky but it feels a bit empty, maybe slightly weak and missing something.
    • Nose
      87 87
Dark sherry with some Bowmore smoke and heather. Lots of dark chocolate, a leather sofa, chocolate-covered berries, old books, some salt, currants.
    • Taste
      86 86
Currants, red berries, oily, some leather and heather, wood polish (too much), tobacco, plastic, some peat.
    • Finish
      87 87
Red berries, currants, oil, wood polish, leather, some tobacco, more sherry and peat, some mint.

The only new release so far that I've received directly from Scotland since Brexit... and it was definitely worth it. Great, modern Bowie who also swims very well.
    • Nose
Amarena cherries, orange zest, marzipan, sweet sherry, plum must, umami, wonderfully integrated smoke ... with water it becomes more alcoholic at first, but that subsides after a few minutes, overall it becomes a bit lighter, lots of hazelnuts.
    • Taste
Sweet, roasty, sandalwood, minimal sulfur (although it's okay even for me as an allergic person), roasted hazelnuts... with water the sulfur disappears completely.
    • Finish
Powerful and long, woody finish ... maple syrup sweet with water, not quite as long.

Possibly my whisky of the year for 2021. It is conservative, but brilliantly executed, and the heavy oriental profile is exactly is to my liking. Well done Bowmore, and thank you for pricing it relatively reasonably.

PS. Make sure to smell your glass afterwards, smells like oudh!
    • Nose
Nose: aaah, perfect. So much leather, animalic castoreum even. Medium-dark chocolate with sea salt, blackcurrant jam (but also some leaves, that tart cassis note is inherent to Bowmore), blueberry conserve. The smoke is just a burning log fire, cozy, one for the armchair (aren’t they all though)... Lots of heavy oriental perfume ingredients, very balsamic, I get a mixture of peru and tolu balsams, vanilla tincture, benzoin, atlas cedarwood. Spiced orange marmalade, dates. Creamy coffee and cinnamon. Sweet toffee, fudge and honeyed tropical fruits become more pronounced with water, rounding out the nose.
    • Taste
Palate: smokier than expected arrival. Tart blackcurrant, orange fruit jellies, overripe blackberries, cranberry juice, toffee and fudge. Coffee, subtle hints of cardamom, mint and thyme. Amarone and other powerful red wines.
    • Finish
Finish: very long, starting with a distinct note of marijuana. Then drying down to cigar smoke, seaweed, blueberry jam, blackcurrant cough drops, coffee, bonfire smoke, rosemary.

Should be better, great value if at original price.
    • Nose
      89 89
Toffee, it is toffee, quite significant, then ashy, light citrus, brown sugar, mint, nice, I like it
    • Taste
      89 89
Dry grass, ashy, not yet open well, mint, dark coffee.

After drops of water, that's better, more honey taste, some spices.

      Quite consistant to the nose.
    • Finish
      87 87
Dark coffee, sugar, some spices, a bit warm mouth feel.

A wonderful, memorable whisky. Multi-layered and multifaceted, harmonious.
    • Nose
At first, he is a little strange, not having time to open up. Then it becomes dry, raising dryness from the swamp, from the sweet grape jam. Iodine and smoke.
    • Taste
Sweet, dry, like grape marshmallow, smoky, peaty, like plums smoked on peat, very deep.
    • Finish
Long, sweet, velvety, round and very delicate.

    • Nose
A touch of bonfire smoke at first. Followed by blackberries, blueberries and prunes. It’s slightly sulphury, but nothing too bad. Raisins. Leather. Earl Grey tea. A hint of seaweed and it’s also slightly briny. Honey. Cigar leaves. Dark chocolate and cinnamon too.
    • Taste
Smokier than the nose suggests. A nice oily mouthfeel. Raisins and dates. A hint of the berries again. Seaweed and brine. Dark chocolate and leather. Slightly spicy towards the finish: chilli peppers, nutmeg and a touch of cinnamon.
    • Finish
Long with bonfire smoke, brine, dark chocolate, leather, a touch of oak and the same spices. Mint as well.

Nose: The aroma is heavy, barely perceptible peat, sweet sherry, raisins, ripe fruits.
Taste: Branded smokiness, sweet soot, lots of fruits and berries, caramel. Skin tones, notes of iodine in the background.
Aftertaste: Medium, warm, peppery. Along with the sweetness comes fumes and soot. Sour berries and overripe apples.

scbp-5632, haven't you eaten? Can you do it a little bit harder? The smell of peat is quite comfortable. The strength of the taste is slightly weak, and the salty bitterness is slightly excessive.
    • Nose
      90 90
Slightly sulfur texture, mineral texture, wax texture, cherry, old citrus peel, black pepper, the intensity of the aroma is gentle, moderate to mild fresh violet aroma, caramel-flavored peat, lard oil, Sour pineapple. At the same time, there are some vanilla, cream and other milky aromas to pave the way for layering.
    • Taste
      86 86
The overall taste is not high in intensity, sour pineapple, banana, dried apple, cream, caramel, and moderate smoke, with a slight salt and black pepper stimulation. Balanced sweet and sour, strong oiliness, medium to weak wine strength.
    • Finish
      85 85
Leaves mint, strong woody tannins, salt.

Somehow different but not necessarily my preference
    • Nose
      86 86
A lot of red fruits, berries, red currant, little smoky, hints of leather, iodine, seabreeze, little salty, little kippery, nuts and raisins, books, newspaper
    • Taste
      87 87
Quite punchy, oily, creamy, little sweetness, more berries and red currant, nuts, sherry notes, smoky, little peaty, again little leathery, old wooden cabinet, tobacco, spices, pepper
    • Finish
      85 85
Long, warm, spicy, more punchy, little more sweetness, nutty, hints of leather and old wood

    Bowmore 18yo Feis Ile 51.2%
Nose: Oloroso funk straight out the door. Super nutty and raisin heavy with a massive helping of black pepper stabbing at your nose. Bitter cocoa, blackjacks, gunpowder smoke, tar and some coastal salinity.
Palate: Much peatier than the nose with some classic Bowmore soot and burning rubber. Horlicks!, chocolate milkshake, aniseed, burnt toffee, charcoal, caramelised onion, manuka honey.
Mouthfeel: Oily, almost waxy with some subtle peppery heat.
Finish: A huge rush of liquorice and espresso which quietens down quickly. Russian caravan tea, hessian sacks, cardamom and a pleasant sulphur note with candle wax.
    ----------
It’s been a while since I’ve tried a sherry cask I’ve enjoyed but this seriously hit the spot. The nose is ever so slightly hot, but at 51.2% the palate is balanced perfectly and does not suffer from the spice/pepper heavy complexion that so many sherry dominant malts fall foul of. This is big, powerful and rich without being overtly in your face or overpowering. That’s 2/2 to Bowmore for Feis Ile this year. Fantastic stuff.
    Score: 84/100

Flawless dark sherry with some of that bowmore smoke, straight to the point
