Whisky Reviews for Glengoyne 1997

- Very promising in the nose, unfortunately disappointing in the mouth and finish. It's OK, but do not lure me out of the oven.
Immediately dense, buttery, slightly sweaty sherry on the nose. After some time less butter, but now also some fruit, very ripe, partly slightly angegorene apples. The Sherrynoten are still there, but now hide between malty tones and stale air (basement room). In addition to the apples are other fruits, star fruit and a dash of lemon juice. Heated, the sherry comes to the fore again, tight and set.
Already in the first appearance oaky with strong acidic hints, quite strong, while the mouthfeel rather watery, not very sweet. The nose can hardly be found here, only a little fruity impressions can manifest.
Quite fast, he is gone, without any emphasis.
- Pure and ok, but not very full of character. Actually Sherry Bourbon combo should work, but I lack the depth. 80 points
Clear vanilla, creamy caramel / toffee, milk chocolate and very fruity notes of garden fruits (eg apple, pears, bananas). The whole is enveloped by fine woody notes and spicy honey. Like, but where is the sherry?
Dry sweetness, citrus (grapefruit, lemon), persistent spicyness (ginger) and peppery-spicy honey. Again, to taste little of the sherry ripening.
long, dry with lots of citrus and ginger. In the end a bit bitter, smoky and woody.
- Nose: Mild sherry influence, some sulphur, a bit alcoholic, some cardboard, sand and tree roots
Mouth: mild, malty, some alcohol again, tanins and a bit bitter
Finish: Honey, sherry, short, oily, a tad bitter again, a bit pepper
Comments: okay`ish, the tanins, the alcoholic note and the sulphur in the nose aren`t too hot thou.
