CB's canvas is very easy to drink. It has prominent orange peel and apple aroma, slight vanilla, rich honey and sweet milk chocolate. Black pepper and nutmeg make the sweet recovery longer, accompanied by the aroma of roasted almond. It can be said that it has met my expectations. If you also like orange peel + fruit flavor, you will definitely like canvas.

[October 2022] I had a dram during a private tasting...

...which is easy drinking stuff. What else to say? Nothing.

The Tomatin was finished for 2 years in a Spanish Orange Wine cask, blended with bourbon finished spirits. A decent dram.
    • Nose
      Honey, candlewax, polish.
    • Taste
Mellow, there are fruit notes and wood coming in afterwards, the fruit builds.
    • Finish
The flavour keeps building - very pleasant.

Warming spice, citrus, honey, chocolate and a slight vanilla on the palate (17)
Lingering spice, chocolate on the finish (17)
Overall, nice, well balanced. Lovely mouthfeel, good stuff (17)

Amazing nose with rich vanilla, marzipan, almonds and oranges. Sadly the finish is weirdly hot (chilly) and the alcohol does not seem integrated at all. If the taste and finish could deliver what the nose promises, this would be exceptional, sadly it does not and it's one of the most disappointing CB releases I've tried.

Not the best I've had from Compass Box, the Canvas could do with some more depth and interest.
    • Nose
Vanilla custard, sweet banana and floral notes to kick things off, followed by beeswax, butter cookies and a large sprinkle of orange zest.
    • Taste
Lovely creamy mouthfeel with touches of peach, honey and lemon, but also a whiff of nutmeg and black pepper.
    • Finish
Lingering oak spices with a touch of vanilla sweetness. Medium in length.

The Compass Box Canvas is a blend of a Tomatin matured in Refill Bourbon Barrel (37.5% share) and a Glenburgie matured in First Fill Bourbon Barrel (25% share), which is made from a Refill American Oak Hogshead - whatever that was May be - ripened Glen Elgin (17% share) and once again a tomatin ripened in Vino Naranja barrel (14% share) is added. The tip of the iceberg is a first-fill bourbon barrel matured Imperial with a 6.5% share.

The key data alone promise a certain complexity, even if no age is given here.
    • Nose
      89 89
The nose starts with a colorful fruit basket, creamy vanilla notes and sweet pastries. Over time, this impression increases and there are butterscotch, raspberry cake and banana split. The alcohol is well integrated. Gradually, a light oak spice becomes noticeable on the edge.
    • Taste
      89 89
The whiskey starts out stronger on the tongue than expected due to its soft aroma - but it also quickly tips off all sorts of red fruits and stone fruits. The sweet and fruity impressions are accompanied by classic ex-bourbon notes such as vanilla and honey. There are pleasant spices and a little sage.
    • Finish
      88 88
In the finish, the fruits slowly fade away, become a little drier and finally flow into hints of fruit tobacco. The finish is then rounded off with cocoa powder and a little oak.
