[September, 2021] Out of curiosity I do a sampling of all new Diageo "Flora & Fauna" series releases. The first seven drams (Auchroisk, Teaninich, Mannochmore, Glen Spey, Inchgower, Glenlossie, Linkwood) were all sub-standard and not worth the money (according to my taste buds only) so I wonder if I will find any dram which is of an adequate quality this year...

...and this Strathmill is the worst of the pack (so far). Both nose and palate are almost non-existent - they smell and taste just like sweetened alcohol only. This sample goes down the drain, no way I will drink such stuff!
    • Nose
      75 75
The colour is jonquiripe corn which provides some hope for an enjoyable nose but unfortunately this nose is almost non-existent. I have hard times to catch any aromas at all even after longer oxidation. I just smell alcohol and some hints of the wood, that is it. What the hell are you doing, Diageo? This is a shame!
    • Taste
      74 74
The taste is close to non-existent too, this is nothing else than sweetened alcohol . I refuse to drink such stuff, where is the spittoon? By the way, water does not help either. This whisky did not mature at all, the casks were completely dead.
    • Finish
      75 75
The dram arrives a little hot (alcoholic) but without any traceable mouthfeel on my palate. The finish is a little better and I would say it is (almost) of medium length but it adds no new impressions, unfortunately.

    nose:
    spicy, malty, dry oak, alcoholic
a little vanilla, a little sour
    mouth:
spicy, alcohol again, dry wood, nuts, feeling of dryness and harshness
bitterness of a sudden with herbs of carbonated drinks, it becomes sweet with the artificial taste of cola lollipop
    final:
woody, soft on candied and sweet vanilla, lack of uniqueness

Smell: some alcohol stimulation, oak, firewood, flour, wheat, grass, sweet residue wine. The flavor is very weak and the woody flavor is too strong. 80/100
Taste: more obvious bitter base, wheat, syrup, cream, orange peel, cola, chiffon cake, oak body: oily body, medium light finish: long, oak, sugar cube, bitterness
Overall: 80/100, the flavor should be the worst among them. The last one has sour and green flavor, and this one is the kind of very routine sweet + wood + a little bit of flower and fruit embellishment. If you drink it After a certain number of basic models, you should be familiar with this routine, which is really boring. And there is no level and flavor at all. It is not recommended to try, besides, it is so expensive.
